How well does engine protection lubercate like Slick 50 work in the RX-8? I'd think it would help preserve the engine because of the high reves and heat which seals the slick 50 to the metals molecules creating a protective coat thats strengthens the engine. I use to sell Slick 50 enos ago when it 1st came out.
Has anybody tried Slick 50 addictive or similar products? Or is it best to go with just plain old oil?

If you are using a good quality oil, you don't need additional additives. I personally use Royal Purple and would never insult or ruin it by adding anything to it. Slick 50 is crap anyways. Just use a high quality oil and let it do it's job.
Typically an additive will improve one area (if you are lucky!) at the expense of lower performance in another. Lucas oil treatment is a good example. They claim it helps your oil stick to your wear surfaces better than just oil alone. If you've ever seen it, it is really thick stuff. It would probably stick to teflon! They claim it helps with startup wear since there is still oil on all of your bearing surfaces when you start it. That may actually be true and a good benefit. However one thing it does really badly and this is what they don't tell you is that it really has a tendency to foam up while running. This is bad. This is air bubbles getting trapped in the oil. Oil with air doesn't protect or lubricate anything as well as just oil. This means that your engine is actually wearing out faster while it's running just for the sake of maybe possibly helping startup wear (again if you're lucky). Don't use any of that crap.

Slick 50? Is that stuff still around?
Back about 1980 I watched a Formula Vee in Charlotte drain the oil and take a lap after using Slick 50. It was a Bill Noble engine and afterwards it turned over to Bill who took it home. Those of you who know FV's and Bill Noble know he would never compromise his word for some slicker. A few months later I spoke to Bill and he was amazed. He's seen his motors go dry but never did they run for more then a few seconds before they siezed. So I had to ask; would you (Bill) use or recommend Slick 50? He said no. It did nothing on the dyno, and it did nothing to make a motor last longer under normal race conditions.
Personally I don't see how something as slippery as teflon would "cling" to steel the way the Slick's marketing claimed, but thats just my opinion.

Everyone likes Lube Control FP60 and one of the Schaeffers products. Good system cleaning additives.
