How will the new Alitma coupe effect RX-8 sells?

How will the new Alitma coupe effect RX-8 sells? I've heard this in the near the office water fountain conference. They both have rear seats, the Altima trunk is larger and it has a Nissan tuned suspension with pretty neat mid level interior design. With the mid-range and bigger engine it matches the RX-8s hp or better hp and has better low end torque.

Do you think this sporty coupe can compare with the RX-8 Sports Car. I doubt if the Nissans 5 or 6 spd manual tranny better then the 8's. You know that these two will be compared someday. I don't think their quite apples and oranges.

Which would you think the better daily driver?
I think the base price will be $21K just like the base on sell RX-8. Was this doen on purpose?

altima is a sedan.

Even sporty sedans are still not comparable. e.g; mazda3 and mazda6.

^There is an Altima Coupe, coming 2008. 2 doors /w rear seats.

No effect.

To me, Altima is just like Civic/Corolla

RX-8 is for people who knows automobiles.

and RWD always pwnz FWD.

Enough said.

Mysql- there is a new 2 door Altima coming out. I see no affect though. Does the Accord Coupe affect RX-8 sales? No.

no effect. No body knows what an RX8 is anyways.
If anything the alti coupe may affect 350z sales.

I would say this IS apples to oranges...FWD sedan-based coupe vs. RWD purpose built sports car...no contest. Sure with the V6 the Altima will blow the RX-8 away (in a drag race, no corners), but as has already been discussed hundreds (possibly thousands) of times, the RX-8 is not a straight-line car, and the Altima will never be more than a straight-line car. The Altima will never handle, and that is what the RX-8 is all about.

It's a completely different car for a completely different demographic. 0 (read zero) effect on RX-8.

The vast majority of these coupes will be 4 cylinder slush boxes driven by post-menopausal women. Kinda like the Solara coupe.

I agree—definitely apples & oranges. It's hard to imagine anyone shopping an 8 would have an Altima on their list, too.

It competes with the Honda Accord and Solara coupe crowd.

i think the rx8 sales has shriveled up enough that those that actually want a RX8, won't look at the altima coupe...

the altima coupe is a heavy pig that looks too awkward at too many angles.

Im not sure how the new altima handles but

when driving my Bro's 05 SE-R, it came with Nismo sway bars, as soon as I make a turn, the front nose feels really *heavy*, the handling its *ok* for me. Its nowhere close to Stock Rx8 tho.

I mean its a FWD car, nose always feels heavier, and I guess the new Altima will feel the same.
