How you drive your 8

I used to drive Mustang and Camaro, since I have my 8, 2 weeks ago. It change the way I used to drive manual. When i'm in 3rd gear the speed is over 80KM/H 50 milles. it's too fast for cop and get caught.

My question is could we stay in second gear all the time the rev is around 6000 and drive 65KM/H around 40 milles.

Thanks

You COULD do that, but I hope you've saved enough $$$ for a new engine.

Not to mention you'd probably end up getting 8mpg if you did that.

If I understand your answer I should get use to be in 3rd gear. and driving the car at 40 milles and feeling the leak off power. for the gas that doesn't change anything. cost the same in second or 3rd gear.

Beware of the flammers. But welcome to the board.

But seriously, why would you want to do that? The 8 can handle revs better than any other car IMO, but why the extra stress on the engine and fuel costs?

You'll get used to the 8, I had mine for 6 months and remember cruising along at 7000rpm without knowing. Part of the pleasure of having the smoothest powerplant I ever driven.

you CAN do that if you like, it takes a lot more to destroy a wankel than it does a piston engine, but I don't see the point in doing what you're suggesting, it sounds to me like you want to drive at the sweet spot all the time just so that you can mash it and get max power at any given time.

I had a friend that used to drive a citroen AX like that and he totalled it by turning at full power and miscalculating so that a pickup truck that was driving toward him in the opposite lane T-boned his ***.

Just relax and enjoy your ride.

I downloaded the shifting points from the 2006 owners manual and it lists these as the places to shift into what gears at:

2nd: 14
3rd: 22
4th: 29
5th: 36
6th: 46

its all about what RPMs you want to be in

as far as loss of power in higher gears ...

have you ever heard of down-shifting ???

You can ride in second gear all you want. It'll be find on the engine. Just vary your rpms with it as well. and Make sure you don't care about gas.

The points I listed, I believe, were for maximum fuel economy.

I get worse gas milage in my rx-8 then my 5 speed 97wrangler with 4.0L inline 6. And it can't go over 85 in 5th gear. You actually have to stay in 4th to go faster, then you can go faster...hehehehehe

I tend to favor 3000 rpm's when I'm just cruising from point A to B...and not trying to pass or do any performance thing...

I don't think you'd especially hurt your engine doing that, the rotary loves to rev, but you are going to go through gas a whole lot faster than is necessary.

Try using the throttle. The Renesis cruises very nicely at 2 or 3 thousand RPM.

Oh, terrific, now we're jumping on the guy for having English not be his first language. I'd like to see any of those making fun of his language do better, posting on some non-English forum.

I have to agree with you, when I was writing it. I talk to myself, if the sentence make sense.
