Thank you for submitting your online order request for a 2004 Mazda RX-8! We have forwarded your inquiry to the dealer you selected.
To ensure you are one of the first to experience the exhilarating performance of this revolutionary sports car, remember you MUST VISIT YOUR DEALER TO COMPLETE YOUR ORDER.
At the dealership, you will confirm your requested order, complete any necessary paperwork, and provide a deposit (if required by your dealer).
Your Mazda dealer will submit your requested order to Mazda North American Operations.
PLEASE NOTE: Your car will NOT be ordered unless submitted by your dealer.
Throughout the order process we will keep you updated with email notifications of important milestones leading up to the moment you take delivery of your own Mazda RX-8.
After you have completed the order through your dealership, your dealer will process and place your order request.
Stay tuned and we will send you an email when that occurs.
For more information on what to expect in this order process and the timing involved, please visit our FAQ at the link below:

I would suggest that those of you who did not yet receive this email from Mazda, contact your dealer. Make THEM work for that commission! Don't let them off the hook until you are satisfied with their response.

My dealer did not submit the order with my email address, so I called him up and he was trying to avoid putting my email address on the order and playing dumb (maybe he was uninformed). I suspect that if he was not informed, that perhaps they were trying to keep me out of the loop so they could call me back saying "We lost your order, but we have this other RX-8 just like yours... but there is a dealer markup on it."
I explained what NA Mazda was doing with the preorder status emails and made him change the order. He should be faxing me a copy of the order change today.
I guess I am untrusting of car dealers, but can you blame me?

re: RotorBoy's comment:
"As in.. it was sent to you just now from Mazda, or you got it yesterday and just now read it?"
Sorry, yes, got it yesterday (Wed. Feb. 12, 2:45 PM) and read it this morning.

email on orders?
I got a copy of my dealer's "assignments/inventory report" today. I see the diff between order Reference Number (200304000544) and Vehicle Request ID (2003015148200028) now. The RX8s on order are different from the other vehicles on the inventory report in that they have a line for "Customer Name" and "E-Mail". My car has my name listed but nothing where E-Mail is". Does anyone know if this means my email address (those insiders at Mazda may know this) has not yet properly been linked to my order? I have not received the confirmation email. It appears that obviously it shouldn't make a difference in anything besides getting the emails with everyone else but it'd be fun to be getting them!

the dealer printed out whatever webpage and gave it to me after circling my confirmation number, and it only listed my name right under the number. but he mentioned that he submitted my e-mail and info to mazda with the order which is probably why i get e-mails... so maybe just e-mail or call mazda and double check

The following may expalin why some got the messages and some didn't. It looks like the first "pre-order period" ended Jan 13th. If this is true then the people that got confirmations probably ordered before then. I know I did. This quote is from rotarynews.com (I think):
We start with confirmed news of an RX-8 presale program. The first few months of production will be devoted to these cars. The program will run from January 8th through March 7th 2003. Dealers will be allocated a set number of cars, customers can configure options, and colors either online, or at the dealer. Mazda dealers will then order the cars. There will be three deadlines, January 13th, Feburary 7th, and March 7th. Cars ordered in January should arrive between June-August, in Feburary between July and September, and in March between August and October.
I think the dealers who think they are getting cars in April or May are dreaming...

any dealer that tells you they're getting the cars in april are full of it. Production of the the very first ones starts the first week of march, then they have to get some supply built up, then they are put on a boat and shipped to jacksonville fl, and some other port on the west coast, then certain things are added at the port to the cars, then they are put on a truck and shipped to the dealer. I would say late may, early june is the absolute earliest anyone will see one. Plus aren't they planning to correspond the arrival of the cars with the release of the xmen movie?

"ASGN DATE" on inventory report.
I will not believe that my dealer did not get my order in by Jan 13th since I contacted them on Jan 8th and had had my deposit for a FULL YEAR prior to that, not to mention probably dropping by just about every month for that year to check on the status of the RX-8 as things developed and of course usually (still the case) knowing more than they did. However, on the Inventory Report, the date under the column "ASGN DATE" says "01/16/03". The other 3 cars that they just submitted orders for the 2nd allocation, I think, have a date of "01/30/03". Can anyone who has received the latest Mazda email confirm for me what that date is on their order?? Would certainly appreciate it!
P.S. I was one of the people who contacted via email rxorders at Mazda who subsequently contacted my dealer, and the dealer later confirmed he had added my email addr to the order!

Has anyone that ordered in February gotten their confirmation? I was actually the first person to pre-order from my dealer, and I went in on February first (sounded like they had already ordered a few in January, but none were spoken for). We had a little issue with the email thing, and I had Mazda call him and explain it- he called last Friday, the 7, and left me a message saying he got my email into the system. I'm paranoid he didn't, but if anyone else who placed their order after February 1st hasn't gotten theirs either I'll feel a lot better.
Nevermind..I see Puppy1 ordered his in the second batch, and he's gotten his- maybe my dealer just screwed up my email...
