Hymee visits Richard Paul
I was very fortunate to be the guest of Richard Paul at one of his shops in the LA area.
I was hoping he might be able to collect me from LAX, but just before I left home in Aus I gave him a call and he said that was not going to be posibile for whatever reason. So I had to grab a rental un-announced on arrival at LAX. That went all smooth, and he gave me some verbal instructions via cell to get me close to his shop, and when I got near, he gave me some real time guidance.
He showed me everthing I was asking about, parts of his axial flow supercharges in various stages of construction. He showed me through is shop, and it's array of CNC milling machines and lathes. Even his 4-axis unit.
He had lots of other things on the go, including lots of hi-po heads for mototcross bikes that they manufacture and market on a fairly large scale.
Also aftermarket machined parts for the rotary comunity, including a nice annodized no-pistons rotor shaped oil cap, and a shifter for an RX-7.
The LAPD even came around to ensure that my entry to the country was nice and easy, and I was being looked after.
It was a bit hot and uncomfortable in the shop, and I was getting way thirsty. So we headed up to a Fridays and sat down for a nice burger, and plenty of ice cool drinks. I wasn't much feeling like a beer, but a few root beers went down real fast. Thanks for picking up the tab Richard - next time it is my turn.
I also met Richard's partner, and the 3 of has a long chat about RX-8 related stuff, and also lots of info about the TSI fuel/ignition controller we are using. I wish had more time to spend with the both of them, and to satisfy my thirst even more
Here are a few pics, in random order...
Thanks Richard! I'll remember you to Alan Jones when I see him next.
Cheers,
Hymee.
