I am in automotive nirvana!
Hi all,
First post. First rotary.
WOW!!
I have never been so happy with a car as I am with my 05 RX-8. I drove a Mazda 6 for the last 2 1/2 years and went in to get my oil changed on Saturday and.....well, imagine my wife's suprise!
I don't think she was too happy until I let her drive it last night. She went to the store (2 blocks away) to get a Diet Coke and was gone for 45 minutes. I thought the worst and then she came home and said she had to take it on the interstate to open it up a bit. She LOVES it and told me that she is SO glad I got the 6-speed!!
I actually enjoy the fact that before I turn it off I have to rev the engine a bit and turn the car off. I think it is JUST quirky enough that I can say I have a true sports car! The cabin gets a little warm but man is it worth it!!
My neighbor told me that in Forza (XBOX) the RX-8 was too slow so he wants a WRX Sti (basing real world $25k+ decisions off of video games-wow).....then he wanted a ride!! After the ride he asked what kind of deal I got on it because he might want to go drive one (I wouldn't let him drive mine.)
Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself to other classy, sporty people like myself (face it, in this car you have no choice but to look sporty and classy!)

thanks for the welcome!!
Speaking of the "beep". I read online or the manual (too much reading-not enough driving), that I should keep the RPM's under 5-6k for the first thousand miles or so. I "accidentally" got them to 7 last night.
Is there a line I shouldn't cross while "breaking" it in? I apologize if this is listed in 4000 places already, but I have seen so many conflicting opinions.

Congrats on the purchase!
Here's a great link for break-in procedure:

Thanks Jedi54 for the link!
I haven't messed anything up with my 7000 RPM jaunt have I (I have 150 miles on it)? I only did it once (and hopefully my wife didn't do it at all, but we do call her iron shoes.) She hit 100 mph in a 2-door RAV 4 going across Wyoming about 7 years ago-- all while admiring the beautiful scenery!!!
I gripped the "oh sh#t" handle so hard that I left fingernail prints in it!

Driving it home from the dealership was a really really interesting experience. I burned out at every stoplight! Not to mention revving high.
15,000 miles later, no problems whatsoever ('cept for that first flood).
I changed my oil at 1000 miles to get all the break-in particles out of my engine.
As said, you should check your oil level about every other fill up, cause the engine will consume more than usual during the break in period.

I don't have pics yet....I went out this morning to take some beauty shots (needed a new desktop wallpaper at work) and realized I forgot to feed and take care of the dogs. Whoops!!
Had to put off taking pictures until tonight.
I got a Black 6 speed with the appearance package and a navigation system that I can't figure out how to shut-up...YET!
Thanks for the welcome everyone!

OK, I have to chime in here because proudRX8papa picked such a good thread title. I finally bought my RX-8 last Friday--6-spd Velocity Red with Touring Package--and I'm in automotive nirvana, too.
My wife was out of town, but at least she knew my intentions, so I didn't quite do the "go in for an oil change and come home with an RX-8 thing." But she was pretty disinterested in the whole purchase, saying she was glad I was happy. (You know the tone, "I'm happy that you're happy....but I'm not really happy personally.")
Well, after she got back home, I finally got her to go drive it, and before long, she had the biggest grin on her face! I'm still not sure she wants to admit how fun it is (it's a pride thing after her former stance), but needless to say, I think her opinion has changed.
Anyway, thanks to this forum (which I've been reading off and on since before the car was released), I'm pretty well mentally prepared for the low gas mileage and all the other little quirks.
By the way, I didn't NEED this car. My little Protege, which I bought new and have driven for 15 years was still running just fine, and probably would have run forever. I kept waiting for it to die so I could justify a new car, but it was becoming apparent that wasn't going to happen. (Picture attached of "the old and the new".)
By the way, does anyone in Colorado know what the fine is for no front plate? Do you get points? (I wouldn't think so.) I'm normally a law-abiding citizen, but it's going to be pretty hard to put a front plate on this car.
Oh well, that's a long enough first post from another enthusiastic new RX-8 owner.

Be glad shes at least not riding your ****. I lucked out.. my wife is much like yours and I'm running with it. But from what I see of alot of other guys wives, For the most part, I think our wife's attitude is about as could as it could possibly get.
Wives, for some reason like to destroy our fun... you could afford it, give the family everything they want, and she don't have to pay a cent into it and it will still be an issue LOL
