I did my first "quick" start today... what a blast :)
Today was a nice day in the Rochester area, and we just had some rain a few days ago to wash the salt off the roads, so I decided to take the 8 out for a bit for some leg stretching.
Part of the drive features a 4 way stop on a 55 mile/hour road, and since no one was in front of me, I decided to try a nice quick start. This is the first manual I've ever driven so I've been fairly conservative with my gear changes, but I'm really starting to get a feel for the car now.
With TC/DSC disabled, I revved the engine to just about 3k, and dropped the clutch pretty fast and let her fly, I felt the wheels do about 2-3 hops at the start. When changing from 1st to second, I again let the clutch out pretty fast with a very quick gear change. It was up to 60 all too quick, but it was a lot of fun I particularly love listening to the "song" of a high revved rotary!
As far as I know, what I did put a little strain on the clutch/transmission, but nothing overly harmful. However, please correct me if I'm mistaken! :P.

starting at 3k and riding the clutch out isnt too bad. (8k is worse) but it does put strain on the clutch of course. you seem to know to not do it every day, so im sure your fine.
but if the wheels are hopping you arent doing it right. use more gas, or let out the clutch slower.

did you turn the dsc all the way off? you should just peel out, a drop clutch is done from 4000 rpm on ferraris and lambos, you should be doing it from 4500 to get the desired effect. That just said you shouldn't be doing it at all if you want your clutch to last you a good while.
it's weird, the rotary almost doesn't exist below 3000 rpm, it seems to want to jump past 3000 revs of it's own will.

stop flooding ur engines
let the clutch out slower and drop it at higher rpm to lessen the pain of the wheel hop....
imo the best wheel hop-less clutch drop is anything about 7k....but 9500 is funnest (if ur crazy enuff)
