I got "R" Flashed...

... and nothing has changed :p

Ok, I only got to drive 10 miles to work since the flash today. I've reset the ECM with the brake taps and so maybe it's still relearning now. We'll see what happens after driving around this weekend.

On a serious note, I feel like I've lost some power in the low rpms

It's my understanding that the recall introduces a new flash. The "E" flash. All North American RX-8's will get it.

I've got the R as of this past Thursday. I think it is much improved over M. Smoother power delivery 3K and up. From a stop these motors are just not going to be great...get a new vette if you want the launch speed! I wish I had the money for one. :D

^ That's the problem I have. Before the R flash, my 8 picks up quickly starting 2500 rpms. Now, it's back to pre-M flash, where it picks up starting 4000 rpms I hope this improves with time.

Xyntax, what is this new R flash suppose to improve upon? I thought I was done with getting flashed when I received the "N" flash.

^ Don't get the R flash if your M already makes your 8 faster. I regret getting this flash. ****.

my experience with the R flash is the exact opposite. I have a smoother power delivery without that flat spot in the upper rpm and I'm getting better mpg over the N flash....go figure.

I just got this flash on Friday and I'm a little pissed. Acceleration from 1k-4k is now almost non-existant. It feels like when I burned my coils last year. Now, I let the clutch out at 1.5K and have to floor it to keep up with traffic. Disclaimer - Im am merely relaying my feelings pre and post flash, and don't need driving instructions or reccomendations of cars with torque, thanks.

4K and above are OK, and smoother if not faster, but it takes far too long to get there.
I guess the PCM is too smart for its own good. I wish they could get their **** straight.

Perhaps if I promise not to be a ******* doofus and rev the **** out of it while idling they'll change me back?

I took off my CZ ever since my plugs were replaced with hot ones and with the M flash. I was getting hesitations at the top end, possibly overleaning. Since I didn't have the time to reconfigure my maps, I just uninstalled it completely. I'm putting it back once I'm ready to tune maps again.

I keep hearing about flashing and flashes and all this. What exactly are you guys talking about.

I had concerns with the RX-8 and the recalls and what not and someone said that if the car was flashed then it's fine. What is that? Reprogrammed CPU?

Hey, I'm taking back what I said. My car feels faster starting at 2K rpms now and much throatier sound.

I recently got 310 miles to a full tank. Highest I had pre R-flash was just 256 miles. This improvement could also be attributed to my RB REVi intake + CAI.

Wow, finally, we are getting advertised 18/24 city/highway that was advertised when we first purchased the car. Xyntax, any ideas as to how the new "R" flash is doing this? Possibly much leaner fuel maps? However I see no decrease in power, maybe slightly at the lower rpm's possibly though.

After the flash my car just feels much faster, and the sound is much deeper. I will be testing it tonight, my boy has one that hasn't been flashed yet so we are going to see the difference.
