I had a VERY close high speed encounter with death last night!!!!!!
Ok, heres the story, I went to a movie with a bunch of people and they all piled into my 8 after because they needed a ride home. There was about 12 miles of STRAIGHT interstate on the way home and it was 1am in iowa, so there werent too many people on the highway. Me being a dumbass trying to show off, i GUN it. I dropped it into 3rd at about 75mph (always fun), and floord it. I had just shifted into 5th and was cruising for a few miles, I was at about 130-132 when I saw this little pos black toyota in the fast lane ( 2 lane interstate). He was like the only car on the road so I didnt mind him much I just eased into the other lane. I was about <500 feet away from this idiot in the slow lane at about 137 when the retard out of nowhere SWERVES INTO MY LANE!!!!!!!!!! Knowing how good the brakes in my car are, I STABBED my brakes like I never have before revieling a loud screaching sound from the front tires and me having to countersteer to keep my car from losing it. I am not shitting anyone when I say I got within inches from this dudes back bumper!!!!!!! I figured what I did was definately smarter than making a sudden lane change at 137 mph and poss. losing it and hurting myself as well as 3 other people in my car. What a freaking MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has anyone else ever had the **** scared out of them like that before???? That was by far the closed encounter Ive ever had in my car. STUPID PEOPLE

That's why high speed driving on anything less than a racetrack is dangerous. Too many uncontrolled factors. You should be thankful for a cost free lesson. Many others have learned the hard way. I was young and stupid once as well. Sometimes I don't see the point to fast cars anymore. That's why driving pleasure is way more important to me than speed. Otherwise, the RX-8 would not be my favorite car. Take it easy man!

I know, im very fortunate and I usually dont go that crazy!!! Im very happy I was able to wake up this morning and walk into my garage and see my 8 in one piece. I also think the guy may have been drunk, he was swerving all over the road after the close call, we actually called him in.

No, you, your passengers, and the other driver had a close encounter. How nice of you to put more than just yourself in danger. Having passengers means you should at least be conscious of their safety. Sorry, who's the stupid person again?

no matter what u do on this board u are gonna get flamed whether its tailing someone, speeding, drunk driving, changing lanes without your turn signal, etc. its your car drive it like you want just dont cry when its wrecked or you kill someone and i dont agree with speeding like that with other people in the car

It is interesting to see all the negative replies to the O.P. were from east coasters that have to deal with heavy traffic all the time and never see an open road.
BTW: Don't show off to others. You don't really gain anything.

Dude, try again, I grew up in the Midwest. Open roads do not mean they are void of pot holes, bumps, cows, deer, etc. Open roads do not mean controlled roadways, as is obvious by the first post.

Let me get this straight ... You were doing 130+ on a public road, with 3 other "friends" in the car, and you call the other guy stupid?
Dude, look in a mirror...

I'll admit I've done stupid stuff similar to what the OP described, but with only me in the car and the second I see another car, I slow down to about the speed limit. Seeing as you cant predict the situation for the other drivers, you dont want to chance it. What if that car stayed in its lane, but as you were passing you hit a bump and swerved into them without any time to react? Would it be his fault for being on the road as well?
