I have good news for those with midpipes.
I took my car to get it inspected this past weekend and guess what - IT PASSED!!!! WITH A MIDPIPE ON!!!
I don't know if this can be applied across the board, but it gives those with midpipes hope!

I don't know about the place I took it to and their standards, but I had thought Texas was pretty strict on emissions...
I haven't thrown CELs since I took it to the dealership a few months ago. I don't know why. I totally expected to fail. There's a 15 day period after the inspection to get any problems fixed w/o having to pay again, so I figured I'd try just to see. It worked in my favor!

Here in Texas we don't have a sniffer test for OBDII cars. They only plug into the OBDII port to check for CEL's. That's it. Of course they make sure your lights, wipers, etc work as well. If you don't have a CEL, you pass. Simple enough. It is possible that she didn't have one which would be why she passed.

Texas does have a visual inspection, and they are supposed to check for a cat. if not multiple cats. They must not have a very good "inspector". Also, they do not need the sniffer since the obd II port tells the computer what the Nox levels and other chemicals are. Of course the machine does not know if it is hooked up to the "real" car that is getting the sticker, so if you have friends in the right places they can help you out. Be careful if you try the battery disconnect trick, because the S.I. computer can tell if it has been recently disconnected. It will read NOT READY. Good job getting it to pass though.

In my ten years of driving I've never had to go through emissions once - thank you Florida. So I guess I'm pretty surprised by this. I would have thought there was no way in hell to pass without a cat.

For those who are thinking that I paid the guy to overlook the specs of my car, or to use some trick to get it to pass, you can toss that idea out the window. I didn't do anything special to my car. I didn't tell them anything ahead of time, nor ask them to do anything out of the ordinary (with the exception of revving and holding before shutting off the engine). I simply walked in, told them I needed an inspection, handed over the keys and came to pick her up a few hours later when they said it was done. With that said, I don't know if this shop is a reputable establishment or not, but to be quite honest, I don't care. I have my sticker for the next 12 months and I'll go back there next year.
