Cool I have rejoined the cult

After several years of driving non-rotaries (bought one of the first FD's back in 92), I just took delivery of a yellow MT GT. I was torn between silver and yellow, but I really wanted a yellow when I bought my FD and couldn't find one, so I scratched that itch and got one now.

Feels nice to be driving a rotary again. :D

Welcome back!

Ironically, I'm selling my FD in favor of the RX-8.

Welcome Back! It's hard to leave the Cult!
Rotaries are addictive. You are more involved :D than with a piston engine.
I should have sold my FC over a year ago while waiting for the 8 to come out. I still have it even though I picked up my 8 in March. It's hard to part with it.

Welcome back! You made the right choice and picked the right color! I bought my FD back in '93 and I also wanted a yellow R1 back then. But the wife talked me out of it and I settled for red. This go around she actually liked the yellow better than the red. (She must be getting younger with age )

I didn't realize how badly I missed the rotary until I got back into one again.

Once in the cult you never leave.

(This is my first rotary, and I've got to say that I'd have a hard time going back to pistons. It would have to be one helluva good motor)

My thoughts exactly... once a rotor head always a rotor head.

I really hated to part with my FD. I had it for about 7 years, the turbos were on their last legs and the engine borderline passed a compression test, so it was either put serious money into it or sell it. I ended up selling it and driving a M3 for 3 years. The test drive for that was very entertaining, the salesman telling me how great it drove and me saying "but my 7 is better". :D I don't think he was very happy with me.. When the lease ran out on the M3 I went w/o a car and used the wife's; the 8 had just been announced and I decided to wait it out.

I test drove a bunch of cars, but the 8 just felt better than the rest.

Rotaries are so smooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth, it is hard to go back to a piston engine after driving one for a while.

You too huh? I kept my FD for almost 6 years, but traded it for the M3 back in '98. Everyone was raving about the M3, but I just wasn't that impressed coming from the FD. However, I needed the back seats and there was no better car for me at that time. I was actually thinking hard about buying the current M3, but my love of the rotary and a light weight nimble car swung me back to Mazda yet again.

98 was when I bought the M3 too. There were a lot of displaced FD owners buying M3's at the time; since Mazda NA had discontinued the FD there wasn't much out there, it was a frequent topic of discussion on the rx7 mailing list.

Same here (and for lots of others with aging 7's that didn't want to drop 8k+ into new turbos and a rotary rebuild); there just wasn't much but the M3. The late 90's was a bad period for japanese sports cars.

If the 7 had still been around I would have bought another one.
