I just bought one!
I just put down a $500 deposit on a 2007 Sport, manual, rear spoiler, and red color. I drove it on Saturday and will be picking it up this coming Saturday. I didn't get a chance to hit any corners during my test drive due to cold and damp weather.
I'm trading a 2007 GTI (excellent trade offer in conjuction with $3,500 cash back) and I will miss the torque. However I'm looking forward to having RWD and a rotary again (had a 1982 GS, 1984 GSL-SE, and a 1987 Turbo). Plus the RX-8 is SO much better looking than the GTI. The GTI is a solid car, but I hope the RX-8 will bring more enjoyment to me.

Welcome to the club. I enjoy VW's too. Well built and fun. This has been one of the funest cars I've owned. And I get a different car every 18 months.

Who cares about feul economy when you can have so much fun attacking corners to freak the crap out of every other driver?
If you want to save gas, just speed it a little and put into neutral whenever you can. You only have to tap the clutch to use Neutral so it won't wear out the clutch so much either.
When you DO replace the clutch, put in an after market aluminum flywheel and counter weight (along with rear main seal) to get torque quicker.
But seriously, people keep saying RX-8 is slow but I just sped mine up onto the highway from 0 and hit 50 pretty quick.

Congrats, You now own fun. These cars handle and feel like UFO's. They can corner and change road position so quickly. Every road and curve is rediscovered and exciting in the 8. Even my driveway.
