I just bought an RX-8

Hey all.

I just bought a new RX-8, 6 Speed MT, with Sport Package. Sunlight silver.

I could not stop driving it today. A complete blast, and a feeling of taut refinement and surgical precision.

The gas mileage hasn't been as bad as I feared. 167 miles on just over a 1/2 tank of gas.

I hope the 2nd half burns as efficiently.

I'm loving this car.

Next stop: Belle Tire or Discount Tire for a set of winter rubber for the Michigan winter.

Maybe I should buy a jalopy and garage the RX. :D

Thanks vector.

I had a Jeep Liberty (still do, actually - the lease is up in about two months).

I bought the RX-8 (no lease) because it was too good of a deal to pass up, and a lot of the rebate cash may not have been there be if I had waited.

My RX-8 was a new 2005 model (48 miles on the odomoter).

I got a really good deal, and am confident of this b/c of all the research I did.

Thanks cs.

I will definitely post pics tomorrow (after the UofM/Michigan State game :D).

Edited - I posted the price I paid and am not sure if that's cool, so I deleted it.

Oh, indeed! :D

Please expect a barrage of questions in about a week.

A side note - This thing has a lot more romp than I expected. Even at low rpm's.

Repeat after me: Gas tank gauges are not linear. And the RX-8 is no exception.

Thanks everyone.

What's this urban legend I keep hearing about sunlight silvers? Is it that they get wrecked more often?

I've heard that about silver cars in general, if so. Something about dusk/dawn.

Damn that's cheap, I'm definitely shooting for under 25k though. What did you have for rebates? 1,000 MAC, 500 Gerber, 500 zoom-zoom what else? Did you ask for the dealer holdback? No dealer fees I'm guessing. Still tough to get it that low with 6% tax.

That was S Plan pricing, and $4,000 in rebates ($1,500 MAC/$2,500 other).

I have sent my Gerber in, so when it's processed, the price should be $24,160.

I could not get a Zoom-Zoom certificate in time, unfortunately.

But yeah, I'm happy.

Was this some dealer promotion for the $2500? This 1500/2500 combo was what people were getting in March this year for '04s, several months after the fact so you definitely got an insane deal . Congrats, hopefully you can shed a little more light into it, I'm having trouble convincing them to do 25,000 with gerber AND zoomzoom

I had them fax me everything ahead of time. The salesman was very professional, and actually, despite hearing a few negative things about the dealership (especailly from other dealerships), it was the best experience I have ever had at a car dealership. Even the finance/sales manager was completely cool. I would not hesitate to do biz there again, and in fact, just might because my wife will need a new car when her lease is up in 6 months (she wants a loaded Mazda 6).

When they faxed me the price quote, they had the $1,500 MAC cash and $2,500 rebate listed on the cash down line, and I didn't argue with that.

I don't know how they got those figures, but the salesman did suggest they were getting some holdback cash from Mazda.

Everything the told me ahead of time was delivered upon.

Just a suggestion - Whatever price quotes you get, leave the issue of the Gerber Rebate and Zoom-Zoom Rebate off the table until you are ready to sign the deal up. If you mention it up front, you will have to work twice as hard to re-gain that $1,000 of possible cash (the cash rebates comes directly from Mazda, and not the dealership, but that won't change the fact that the dealership will try to use it against you).

Good luck.
