I just can't find this info ANYWHERE
Well by no means am i a "noobie" with normal cars, from muscle to imports. However a rotary powered engine, you could call me one. I've been looking into different cars, and the rx-8 caught my attention almost instantly and is a most certain possibilty for my next car. I've heard many different reviews though about the car, i used to want MAD power but the interior of the rx-8 (red and black) just sealed the deal. And i realized power is only half the race. The reports ive searched and read of expressed the rx-8's AMAZING cornering and handling, which is a huge plus for me. However i've also heard the gas is horrible on them, especially when on it. Ive heard many recalls on their dyno sheets? i believe the correct bhp atm is 228? correct me if i'm wrong.
Heres my question, being this is my first post in the rx-8 forum(however im not new to mazda, had an 04 copper mazda6 previously). How well does the rx-8 actually deliver the power thats being rated? Could it beat a mazda6? im talking about the m6 btw, the auto is COMPLETELY outta the question, no offence. Also are there any common problems with them? possible oil burning, any "crunching" when going into a certain gear, doors sagging? anything small but also common in other cars.
I understand the only way to answer all my questions is so actually go and test drive one but the closest dealer to me is about a 40min drive, and thats time i just dont have atm too go fun drive a car lol.
Thanks for any help you can supply, and also any extra info would be highly appreciated.
(sorry if this question is a sticky on the forum, I havent been around long enough to search correctly)

Beat the Mazda 6 in what? Acceleration? Handling? You have to remember that the RX8 is more focused on handling over straight line acceleration. Test drive one, it is not a torquey car at all. Take it through a corner though..you'll be amazed. The "common" problems can be avoided if you maintain it right. Check the stickys and the search button, there are a LOT of information.
Oil burning is not a problem, its by design. It shouldn't be annoying to maintain though... Search "Engine Flooding",

I meant acceleration for beating it, however im fully aware its not a "torquey" at all. But the cars exterior and interior are sexy as SH**. lol. Im prob 60% power 40% style but in this case its vis versa. And handling is something id take over power imo if done right. The cars just simply easy to make look outstanding. I was just curious as to how well it can giddy up compared to the 6. And i hope no one takes offence to this but is it "mazda6 fast" or "integra fast". As long as powers decent stock id be happy. I doubt it'd be stock for long

You would be able to beat a mazda 6 in just about every aspect, But not the mazdaspeed 6 in acceleration though. You won't know what your getting yourself into until you toss it into a few turns. Ignore the low torque and you will be in unconditional love with this car.

The accel would be similar to the V6. If you were into power, you should know, there aren't many mods for power, and the one's that do deliver a lot of power tend to be very expensive (FI). You can search the forum for why if you are interested. Check out the racing section (no street racing allowed) for 1/4 times and you can check out the after market performance section for power mods.

That's not a problem, It's a feature.
Look, welcome to the forum and all, but I suggest you do 2 things.
Lurk more, and go take an 8 on a test drive.

What he said /\.
Well I have the V6 version of the '6 and the rx-8. I can tell you the 8 is much faster overall and is much smoother accross the rev band. The only problem is torque, if you do consider it a problem that is.

You really have to drive it. The acceleration from start to 4K is not going to blow you away, but after that and through the rev range it does very nicely. The gears are well matched to keep you revved. Just drive it. Also, the MPG is a little thirsty, but it does have some to do with how it is driven.

Do you have any sources offering reliable data on flywheel bhp? Or is that number an estimate based on average whp findings and assumed percentage of drivetrain power loss?
drivetrain power loss can be anywhere from a little under 15 percent to about 25 percent, depending on about 7 trillion factors. the claimed output of 232 multiplied by .80, giving a 20% loss, gives 185 whp.
20% is probably a touch on the high side, but certainly possible.
Not disagreeing with you, just saying that such a strong claim requires evidence.

SERIOUSLY! my sister has an 05 and it burns oil at 90k like a b. Always been maintained. all services on time. no use. Guess we're just lucky with these cars.
