there is nothing more useless than an american car
It’s your opinion, but I strongly disagree…

Don’t mistake uniqueness for quality and while I’m well aware of the US car companies giving us crap products it’s unfair to say everything they do is crap. Have you seen the Vette? Have you seen the new Caddy’s? Even the Mustang you complained about, while yes they are a lot on the road, it’s a major upgrade to what it use to be. Heck...while it's FWD which I dislike and looks "normal, nothing special" the Impala is a fine family car and it's quality has been upgraded BIG TIME.

By the way…cause I hear this often and I never understand it, if a car company sells a lot of cars they will continue to develop it and don’t forget they are in the business of selling cars. Who cares if the RX8 is unique if Mazda gives up on it? I for one want to see this car/platform/engine mature instead of watching another unique RX slowly die and disappear for the next decade.

I've never seen a single media comparison where the RX8 and G35 are in it.
While it’s not the norm…look harder because I’ve seen it at least once.

Don't hold your breath. Last I heard was that chevy and the plant in canada were having disputed over who owned the name camaro. Chevy crapped out on a deal with then and let's say they are pissed...
LOL…please tell me more, how the heck does Canada own the name Camaro (the factory there not the country I mean)???? If Chevy builds another Camaro they better find another factory cause the old Camaro’s sure aint known for their quality…while they aint as bad as some wish they were.

I dont know anyone that thinks G35 is competition to the RX8
The G35MT is probably the most direct competition there is for the RX8 especially between the shinka trim level and a G35MT.

G35 seats four, RX8 seats four. Z/S2000 seat 2. S2000 is a roadster.
G35/RX8 performance is similar, roughly same 0-60, rx8 corners a bit better.
G35/RX8 features are similar, both have DSC/TC, both have similar quality interior (g35's is boring however, rx8 has better seats), both are rear drive, both can have nav, etc.
G35/RX8 price is roughly similar in similar trim, within $3-5k.

The 8 is competitive in it's price range, but there are better cars for a bit more such as the Evo, STI. Although put the cost differences into mods and your at about the same performance anyway. You could go buy one of those other cars and feel the exact same way you do now about your 8 when someone comes out with a faster car for less, and that will happen.

The people that whine that the 8 is slow just do not know how to drive. It's a pretty fast car relative to price if you know what your doing.

Personally I consider the 8 a better car than the G35MT in a lot of areas.

might wanna check road and track from last summer. Aug 04 i believe. they did a direct g35 vs. the rx8. Also, Car and Driver from when the rx8 came out, an 04 issue, had the 8 vs the then mustang Cobra, and the g35.

The 8 won the Car and Driver comparo. in the Road and track Comparo there was no winner, but rather each editor picking which one they liked most, and writing about it.

The cars are totally comparable dude, it has nothing to do with this faux 'luxury' ness of Infiniti

yep

nope, about 1/2 second faster and capable of sub 14 sec 1/4 mile stock with a launch

rx8 corners a bit better.

nope, interior quality and features was never close, especially since 2005 G35 had a major interior upgrade. boring is subjective, but as far as quality of marterial, fit and finish, type of material, luxury and amenities... its not comparable

as far as price goes, sedan starts at 31050, coupe starts at 33050, rx8 starts at 25375... theres a 5k-8k difference between starting price. fully loaded G35 easily tops 40k. theres a reason why G35 has better interior quality and more features, you have to pay for them...

all the G35 drivers I know cross shopped bmw 3 series and other entry luxury cars, i dont know anyone that considered the rx8. So i still dont think they are directly comparable, but as you have shown none the less, they have common characteristics. so they are comparable in a broader sense.

care to elaborate more on your "faux luxury ness of infiniti?

the faux luxury ness is in response to the statement that the 2 can't be copmared cause Infiniti is a 'luxury' brand. Its not a comment on how luxurious the car is, i feel they are comparable, and cars in general are comparable for a variety of reasons, and one coming from a 'luxury' brand doesn't make it in a 'different league or non comparible.'. Thats all

yeah, i agree with that, luxury brand dosnt make it a different league. Its the cars them selves that matters

luxury brand do offer their advantages however. for example, in general theres better customer service and longer warranty. The attitude and general atmosphere when you take your car to the dealership is different. Its a very different experience when we take my car or my dads car to the Infiniti and BMW dealership vs when we take our mazda and toyota to their respective dealorships. While there are bad luxury dealerships and there are exceptional none luxury dealerships. In general they really make it a point to offer a higher level of service and atmosphere at luxury dealerships. and of course its not a knock against regular dealerships since you have to pay extra money for the luxury cars. you pay for what you get, it certainly isnt free.

and lastly, I just dont think rx8 and g35 is cross-shopped a lot, as I have said earlier, I dont know any g35 owner that crossed shopped rx8, while im sure there are a few. Im pretty sure they are very few in number. Nor do i think these 2 cars directly compete in sales. how well the rx8 is selling has very little effect on how well the G35 is selling, and vice versa.

I think competition can be relative, depending upon what you are looking for. I have seen the 8 compared to the STi, G35, Z, and even the RSX Type S.

Seats? Throw out the S2000. Comfort? Throw out the Z. HP? Get the STi. Luxury brand with some sports-car feel? Get the G35. A good mix of HP, handling, and 4 seats at a decent price? Get the 8, there is no comparison. Add the great looks, and the 8 has no competition.

Now if only Mazda could get some consistency in the quality of their service departments....

bleah- have you LOOKED at the interior of one of those recently? last one I saw had a rather ugly expanse of plastic down the center. And the seats weren't any more comfortable than the leather in my 8, and the quality didn't seem any better. There's nothing wrong with the G35- it's a pretty car- but I, personally, HATE the interior.

And if you read around on here, you'll find that more than a few people cross-shopped the G35 and RX-8, the TSX, 3 Series, S2000- even the Boxster (me, for example). The 8 was just more useful and more fun, all around.

yeah... considering that I own a 2005 G35 coupe, i think ive seen one of those recently. im not being baised either, the center console is not plasic, its genuine aluminum trim, or rosewood trim. And theres a lot of aluminum or wood accents on other places too, unless youre talking about 2003s? the compartments utilize magnetized latching with lights in them.. the inside of some compartments has carpeted finish. anywho im not being baised here, the G35 interior is better than my dads E46 M3. Its not the best interior in its class by anymeans, its not as good as the IS350 or certain Audis, but its on par with Acura and better than RX8 interior to me. RX8 interior is a lot of hard plastic and is plain on the passenger side, on the doors.. generally just plastic everywhere. its definetly better than the 350z and s2000, but its not on par with luxury vehicles.

IMO theres a lot of things that RX8 does better than the G35 and vise versa, but as far as interior is concerned G35 is a level above RX8.

furthermore you said that the only car thats nicer than the rx8 is the M. Which i dont understand what criteria you go by, it sure dosnt handle as well as the RX8 and its not nearly as fun to drive. So im guessing you are saying its better because its way more luxuirous with all the luxury features and better interior and fit and finish.... But G35 also has a way more luxurious interior than the RX8... so i dont quite follow your logic. If you go by handling, both RX8 and G35 handle better than the M. Im confused.

neways, good luck with Mazda, why did they walk out on you reguarding your tranny? what happened to it? you had to pay for replacement? that should be covered under warranty.
and good luck with modding your car, Id love to see more powerful rx8s running out there.
what kind of mods does it take for the rx8 to make 500hp? is it whp or crank? consideirng how light the car is, 500hp on a rx8 should be insanely fast.
Car and Driver did a comparison between the RX-8, G35C, and Mustang. The RX-8 won. So yeah, you may have "never seen a single media comparison", but they're out there. Guess you haven't been looking very hard?

That old-man clock in the G35C makes me want to puke, too.

Nice cars though, other than the clock and the lack of head room in the back.

yeah the analog clock bothers some people and some loves it, i personally dont like it. the interior is still better though. and time can be displayed in digital form on the nav screen which rises out of the center console.

Yeah but that's if you get Nav as an option. I wouldn't spend $2k on a map, personally.

anyone have a link to the C&D article? Im intersted in reading it, and I must say I find it odd that theyd compare a sports car vs a luxury car vs a muscle car. I'd like to actually read the article and see why they compared these 3 cars.

Yeah I tried to find one for you but no luck. Maybe C&D took it down since it's kinda old now...I remember sending the link to my friend who has a G35C to rub it in

I wouldnt either, I didnt get the nav but instead installed a custom 7 inch touchscreen linked to a computer that does nav, bluetooth, voice command, music, dvd for 1/2 the price. the analog clock for those that dont like it, is just something they have to live with, I adapted to it. And again, the interior is still better. its not like the RX8 dosnt have its own perks with the interior, all cars have 1 or 2.

Off topic, but this is kind of a cool pic of the current C&D top 10. You can clearly see the RX-8 and MX-5.

That's smart...if I still had my 8 I would have probably done something like that.

I've been in the G35C as a passenger and driver a bunch of times, but don't think the interior is any better than the 8s. They are both pretty nice, IMO. The 8 looks more sporty, which it should, while the G35C looks more luxurious (if you get leather), which it should.
