choice of turbo is the biggest factor between the turbo kits, as it dictates spool time, power gains, and the power band itself.

When choosing your turbo, you first need to decide where and how your gonna drive. Autocross needs a small fast spooling turbo, highway pulls and drag racing, you can go bigger and wait for the spool. But if your not gonna autocross then I would deff get the biggest turbo with the least amount of lag. Do some research and lag times and decide which is best for you. And to every one who just says "SEARCH" , it would take less time for you to ignore the question then to make that remark. Not every one has 1k posts and knows the ins and outs of this forum. Most of the "search" results are non-sence anyways from people who have no idea what they are talking about.

+1 for AFE short shifter.

Other than that, the RX-8 is built damn good as stock, so don't waste your money on cheap intakes (which can actually hurt performance), and don't expect any real HP gains from exhaust. FI is the only real way to add power, if you have $5k-10k to spend. Struts and sways seem to be real nice if you plan on Auto-X'ing, which is what this car is designed for.

i wouldn't go as far as calling it a project, it's definitely DIY though.

Intake, midpipe, lowering springs. $500 uninstalled, buy a friend whos a tech a 6pack to throw the **** on for you. Worked for me, Typhoon intake, RP midpipe, TEIN springs. I like my mods, even though its more noise than power gains.

Took me 15 mins doing it myself, with a socket set, and directions from this site. And I had never done anything like this before.
