Tell them that it's a 4 door, 4 seater with a 1.3L motor. How much trouble could you get into with that?

'Sports car' wise...the 8 is prolly one of the cheapest to insure. I am 21, and pay $130/mo.

Tell her you will sign a contract, agreeing to NEVER do drugs, smoke or break the law, and that you won't drink alcohol until you turn 21. Additionally, guarantee her that you'll maintain a predetermined GPA in school and that if you should ever break any of these stipulations she can give your car to your little sister and have you repeatedly run over by members of a Honda Civic car club, until your mangled rotting corpse lies smoldering along the side of the highway.

I agree. Stipulations always seem to work.

I told my parents as long as I was in National Honor Society, and maintained my extracurricular activities and atleast a 3.6 GPA, They would buy my first car as a senior in highschool. Even then, they bought me a used honda accord

now, being 16... i dont know, might be too young, start off with a beater car till you're a senior atleast.

Tell her you will agree to get an automatic and since a honda civic has more horse power then it and goes 0-60 faster then it, it's not really a sports car.

Also, since it's a 4 door, 1.3 liter sedan, insurance will be cheaper then most cars your age group usually gets...

yea get a beater you can drive to ****. get all your teenage wildness out of the way in a 92 Ford Escort. i drove an 86 VW scirocco which was sweet cause i learned stick, had cheap insurance, only spent $450, and didnt need to worry too much about hitting curbs or racing in the school parking lot. its pretty much a gaurantee you'll want to show off when youre 16, try not to waste anyone's money by doing it in a new car.

Ummm... Your mother is correct. I also believe there should be graduated licensing in the states. Under a certain age = X hp.

I'm 37.... old enough to be your dad. For all you know, I could be!

I had a beater when I was a kid. It was a 1976 or 1979 Mustang. I forget...... It was a long time ago. I couldn't afford to put new rubber on the car, so I drove on bald tires, the heater barely worked, the driver side door was falling off its hinges, the rear defroster didn't work, and it had a homemade paint job. The thing had a 308 cu in v8 under the hood and it would fly off the line....... Too bad it had almost no more brakes and the suspension leaked oil so I could barely hold a line in a curve.

First and last beater I ever owned........

Look, do yourself a favor, get your mom to buy you a Toyota Yaris and invest the difference for the next 10 years or so. Your mom'll be proud and you'll be thankful.

tell her that the handling is excellent.. and as long as it as all-weather tires, it'll drive nice in any conidition. Also that it really isnt that fast of a car, it just looks fast. Tell her to atleast wait till your 16 and go to like a carmax with her, so she can sit with u as u test drive 1. Best way.

I forget where I heard this on here, but the 8 is the only car to receive 5 *****'s for rollover and tip prevention. That's a +!!

Your first car should be a beater and you should buy it yourself.

Search for the thread on cheap insurance. Browse the internet for crash pictures to show her how well it holds up. Tell her you will become a mechanical genious by keeping up with all the TSBs.

Who has the $$$ to buy even a beater when they turn 16?? At that age it's school, not work.

By then the 8 will be out of production, and there will be no engines left to drop in an older one.

You really should go with something that will make it a little more difficult to kill yourself. Spend a year or 2 behind the wheel of something that will be slower (*cough*maybe), less likely to beg for high speeds, and less of a concern for dings and dents.
