Yeah, I definitely live in FORD country.

I've had my 8 since 08/03, only seen 2 other 8's in this area since. The new "Stangs" are definitely out... there are 4 new ones parked in my neighborhood.

As a matter of fact... I've seen more CHEVY COBALTS crusing around the last week than I've seen RX-8's over the last 16 months!

If I had extra money to burn I'd get a new Mustang... AFTER I had gotten an RX8 in every color first.

Mustang vs RX-8

If it bothers you to get dusted off get the Mustang. The RX-8 looks really fast, and this will result in many red-light challenges, but at the same time the car doesn't have the power to go light to light with a good sports car. I love my 8, but the lack of power is a serious sticking point for me. I don't race my 8, but looking over and knowing I would lose bothers me from time to time.

Let the flaming begin.

No flames needed. It's a fair assesment because the 8 is not a stoplight to stoplight car. And you now said you "love" your 8 opposed to this :

"I know I sound like a bitter 8 owner, and quite frankly I am. This car has been nothing but a headache for me. To begin it’s not what I expected; I don’t think the car is fun to drive, nor is it efficient. Reliability has been the pits, I have spent several weekends getting it fixed. Flashes, Flooding Engines, and CEL’s. I have owned several cars, that cost far less than the 8, and none of them have given me so many issues. I just feel cheated. Throw in this whole MS 6 thing, and it just makes my blood boil."

At least there was some progress since that time

Hot Rod - Not the 8

justice4RX8,

The 8 is not a hot rod (don't get we wrong she is fast), you own one for only one reason, your a rotor-head. It's not about the technical specs (0-60, 1/4 mile), it's about the feeling of the ride. This is my 4th rotary, as I always say "once you go rotary to never go back." If you don't have the "feeling" buy something else, and let the rest of us enjoy our ride.

End of story.

Stoplight-to-Stoplight Driving

It just occured to me that maybe some 8 owners don't know the procedure for stoplight-to-stoplight driving. So, your at the poll, and you got a hot ride next to you. Rev her up to 7K, drop the clutch, mash the throttle, bring it up to redline, shift into 2nd, bring it up to redline, shift, keep repeating this until you run out of guts or road.

There is a nice alternative to your dilemma. I love the RX8, but the power hungry need not apply. It has plenty of power for most of us, but in reality it is an underpowered sports car with an undetermined future. It does make up for it in many ways, but it's certainly not a car for everyone, nor is the Mustang. As for resale value, the jury is out, because the car is currently dropping like there's no tomorrow. However, that can really work to your advantage, so I'd say go for it. You can buy new instead of used. This site is bias, so I'd imagine you knowingly asked this to get verification. When people ask this question, it's the same exact thing every time. You arent' gonna find anyone here who will say GET THE MACH 1, and rip hard on the RX8 (other then maybe IKE) lol If you go to mustang forum, you'll hear the same thing, so this really doesn't do any good, other then to give you that final push to buy RX8. It seems like your mind is made up, and you certainly have made a good choice.

Before I got my "8" I was looking at an '04 Cobra - sweet ride and the dealer was offering a great discount because the '05s were coming out soon. Well - I didn't even test drive the car because I knew I couldn't live with the interior or the clutch. It had the stiffest clutch I have ever felt, and the interior was just cheap looking. Actually the interior is what shifted my buying decision from the 350Z to the RX8.
