That was such a good point I'm giving myself +1.

Just as a data point, I shoot for 10:1 initially and work my way out to 11.5:1 at the torque peak and maybe 12:1 everywhere else at the leanest - and that is with 7° of leading timing at the torque peak!
Cali/west-coast gas is intolerable. You east-coast guys can go a little leaner and probably 2° more advanced.

But that's just the thing, his AFR was at 13-14 while under boost! In a vacuum it would okay, but under boost, nooooooooo!
Glad to hear it was just flooded. I thought at first it might be a seal, but since you got power back after it hicupped, I didn't think so. And the smell of gas out your exhaust is a tell-tale flood sign.
Glad you got her working, now get her tuned properly!

under boost im at 12-13

UPDATE:
ok, so the car is running now.
and when I got on the FWY, the car felt like it was asking for gas, it felt real forced, so i let off a bit. then it felt like it really needed gas, so i gave it gas and it took a min to pick up (it wasnt fully warm I guess) then when it did pick up, it Kicked HARD. it went up to 10PSI when my car is set to 6psi. WTF?
so i right away let off the gas and slowed down... then for some reason i felt the car super odd. I pressed the gas and my boost guage wouldnt go over 0.
I tried again... nothing.

the guage is staying under 0.
If I ignore the boost guage and "feel" the car.... it almost feels normal..... almost.
which brings me to think that its my vac hose.

god, I just wanna get this **** over with.

hmm, took me about 3 months to get my car working nicely. And that's with two rotary shops working on various issues, plus a lot of my own time fixing things.

This isn't something you're going to plop in and enjoy without needing adjustments.

Also, I recommend you do not go into boost at all if you're going over 12 AFR. Especially if you're getting boost spikes to 10 psi.

My buddy jason (who works on FDs and now works on some 8's) said that its possible that somthing made the computer trip at the high boost I was in and the computer is all fucked up now and trying to get back on its feet.
Im gonna try resetting the battery to reset the e-Manage before the tune to see if I notice any diffrence.

any thoughts on this?

Wouldn't surprise me. When I first got my turbo kit, we alomost blew up my car on the dyno went to crazy detonation. In calling Greddy they had sent out a bad batch of EManage units with the first batch of Greddy turbo kits, and essentially my car had NO EManage map on it. Had to pull it out, and send it to Greddy to get it re-flashed.

fanman> good to hear u got your car working again. u coming to the malibu cruise this weekend?

romeo> glad to hear it was just flooding. i think u should use this as a learning exp and be careful from now on.

we all know the dangers of street racing. in addition to that, the truth is u never really know what ppl got under the hood. just as an example, a friend of mine has a 5.0L mustang v8 in his miata plus another 20K worth of other mods for handling. but, outside his car looks just like a regular miata.

just think how u'd feel if u blew up your engine racing a honda civic w/ god-knows-what under the hood.

it's just not worth it.

The spiking boost sounds exactly like what happened to my friends car shortly before it blew up. It started spiking every once in a while and finally spiked and blew the seals a few days later. Be careful.

Well, that was in the beginning. That was about 2 years & 12,000+ miles later on my car before it went. Needless to say their non-chalant attitude about it wasn't well received.

Didn't even know that you guys were still having them. I thought the last one was a few months ago.

My car I don't even think I redlined the whole time the kit was on. It was more for mid range tq., and more power for everyday driving (3000-6500 RPM), and I was at 6.5 psi of boost the whole time I had the car. I'm definitely staying NA now. I just don't drive that fast anymore, so I'll put up with the slight frustration of lack of tq going onto the freeway vs. blowing my engine again.

I had a friend check it.

my boost guage at idle is at 20
so i DO have vac, so its not a vac hose.

he says that theres no sound when reving it lightly but thinks he hears a light whistle (no, not the spool)
he thinks its a Blown intercooler hose.... a greddy hose ripping?! Thats impossible!!!

I'll check that out tonight, and do the rest tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well.

check the reducer hose at the bottom of your charge tube. Mine burst there, and I've seen at least one other guy who had it blow there as well. It looked normal, but mine burst on the reverse side.
