Eh just throw a hundred pounds of sand in the trunk. That'll fix ya!

this thread is sure getting quite a bit of interest considering all the 1/4 mile bashing that goes on regularly about how driving in a straight line is lame etc etc.

its pretty decent times for 1st time at the drag strip really... it takes tons of skills to get good times, especially on a car like the RX8 that requires difficult high rpm clutch drops. your should probably launch at a much lower RPM like 2200 or so to avoid the wheel spin. Dont worry, your times will get better. My friend ran a 19s 1/4 mile time on his heavily modded evo when he went to the track for the first time. Now on the same car and same mods he just ran a 11.6 last friday night. most of those people that says your time sucks probably cant even break 15s with their life depend on it.

Yeah, I'm not going to get different tires yet... maybe when I get some new rims... which is way down the road.

But, yeah it was fun when I actually got a chance to run (the start was delayed an hour because there was a wedding on the track...).

I'm going again Thursday, so I can experiment with different launches... but I'm going to try a lower RPM, hope I don't go sideways.

Good idea, tune the driver before you lay out cash on the car - then when you do pimp it up you will really know if it was money well spent - wish we could have been there to watch!

I have to hurry off to work...

Went again ran another 14.3... next turn I turned off TC and DSC (usually just had DSC off) felt I had a terrible launch, but ran a 14 @ 100mph...

That's downright sad. I ran 13.2 @ 102 mph in my fwd open diff 2000 civic and it only dyno'd 176 whp 173 wtq.

A 250 whp RX8 should be able to cut 1.9 60 foots on street tires and run a mid 13 @ 104-105.

I think it is important. This guy is one of only a few RX8 owners that runs at the track. He's one of even fewer owners that has a turbo that's been to the track. I went last night to San Antonio Raceway, and I was hundreth car to get tech'ed for the test and tune. Out of those 100+ cars, there was not one RX-8. The majority of the imports were impressively represented by Evo's and Subies in every level of tune. G35 coupes, RX7's, 350Z's (a lot of these bones stock), but there were zero RX8s. That's pretty sad.

I think there's interest in this thread because, secretly, RX8 owners do want to see more power and straightline performance, and they're rooting for this guy to post a good number.

RX8 owners, at least the ones I know, have a hang up about drag racing. I told one that I was headed to track, asked if he would want to go, and he just commented "the 8 is not a straightline car". I think that sums it up. You guys don't want to try, and not much is going to change that, but don't trivialize this guy's attempts. He can use as many tips, and as much discussion as possible.

Dont worry that you didnt do so great your first time. Ive only been twice, but my first time was horrible. Got a 16.1 my first run. Last time i went, my best time was 14.9. I have a cold air intake and exhaust. Everything else is stock. I know I can do better, but I dont know if its worth destroying my clutch with high rpm launches. Its just fun to do, even if the times I get arent so great.
