So I took my car to my local dealer for her oil change and while I was there I also had them check out my squeaky brakes and rattling rear view mirror.

Well the oil change went fine and the mirror doesn't seem to rattle anymore but here's the BS part... They said that the squeak in the brakes are normal due to the build up of moisture and grease???? WTF!!!

I've been searching squeaky brakes and found that some people are getting it taken care of by the dealer and there is also a TSB on it. This sucks cause the next closest dealer is 35 miles away. Should I be the dick and tell them to fix it or should I deal with the stupid squeak?

 

Squeaky front brakes are common on the 8. Print out the TSB and take it in and demand they at the very least, make an attempt to fix it. I finally got mine fixed but I had to go to another dealer.

 

they should atleast try once. i wouldn't be a dick cause thats just gonna **** them off, but just come with the printed out TSB and request they take care of it.

I've had them TSB' em 2x, and it still squeaks, but have tried some of the methods in the threads, and its gotten better. (i.e., bed them by driving around the block dragging brakes, etc).

 

dont be a dick. be a respectful mature adult. explain to the service writer or service manager that you know that the squeaky brakes is a recurring issue with the rx-8 and that many people get it repaired following the instructions of the TSB . show them the TSB they will say something like " oh you cant trust what you get off the internet. then tell them that you got it from your freind at the dealer 35 miles away and that you wish them to call the tech line or the district rep to verify the TSB and to download the TSB them selves from the MX Connect website. Tell them you will wait while they verify all of this.

If you go in as a Mature Informed owner you will get a much better response than if you are a dick

 

you have a sports car with high performance brake pads that make it one of the best stopping cars ever, which by nature are prone to squealing. Drive around the block once with the brakes dragging to scuff up the pads or get rid of your sports car.

 

My brakes have been screaming for about a month, and they were getting worse and worse each week. This TSB came out just in time. I was driving by my dealer and stopped in to make an appointment. I told him about the TSB, they looked it up and told me to bring it in.

At first he said I might be responsible for the brakes because I was over the 12K warranty but mazda would pick up the labor and the kit. I asked how much and he went to look it up. When he came back he said that when he put in the part numbers it came up as one kit, so there would be no charge. Got it done the next day, no more screaming and no charge...

 

In my experience, the brakes will continue to squeak no matter what. After servicing, they'll take a little longer to do so. It seems the brakes are so good, that you really don't have to stress them much. I hardly use the brakes due to engine braking, and even when I do, I rarely need anywhere near full pedal pressure. Bedding them in occasionally will keep the squeak from coming back. You don't even need the full bedding process, just a few hard applications of the brakes will do.

Being an adult can be boring sometimes but I understand what you guys are saying...and your right.

I think I will talk to them with the TSB when I get back from vacation. Great approach zoom44, I'll have to use that!

I found if you bevel the leading edge of the pads it will stop the squelling. Remove them...bevel the edges, and lube the slide points and you will be good for a while.

 

Search on bedding.

Bed your brakes.

what helps is new pads from Porterfield

 

How did you bevel them? Metal file? Grinder?

 

those will squeal even worse depending on the pads

I bevelled them with 80 grit sandpaper.....It's quick

It has a list, go down to the "squeal noise from front brakes..." Print it out and take it to the dealer. It comes from Mazda themselves. I already had it done and no more noise.

 

I took mine in for the new TSB and the squeal is gone.

 

I got the same thing the first time I complained about my squeaky brakes - everything was fine. So, I came home double-checked the TSB and called them back. Said, "I was really worried about my brakes so I got on the internet and was looking around and found a TSB for them. Don't you have to fix that?" Sounded real innocent (course I'm a girl) and got them fixed.

In the dealership's defense, I really don't think they knew about the TSB. They were very nice about it and so was I.

 

I had mine TSBd and the squeal was worse than it had been before I took it in. But it's not a problem in warm weather, at least. Now, for the other six months of the year . . .

 

I tryed to be a Mature Informed owner/Person but that did not work. So now I'm in a civil lawsuit.

When its cold outside and you use the brakes hard, the hot pads cool too quickly as get a glass surface otherwise known as "glazing" which will cause squealing (the more aggressive the pads, the more prone they are to this). You need to scuff the pads up every once in a while to get rid of the squeal - usually light braking once around the block will do it, or you can take the pads out and lightly sand them.
