just start looking through stickied threads here and in many of the sub forums. You'll find a lot of information. I think I spent close to 2 months just reading this forum daily and doing some searches on the web.

I am no expert so I won't even try to answer question. I just got my 8 last week.

They are very good cars IMO but if you are really wanting one I would hope that you'd know a tad bit more.

Read around the forum. I got the same advice when I first came here and it's very helpful. Many use the car as a daily driver and it's very fun to drive and handles very well. The rotary engine requires a little special care in that it's designed to burn a little oil so you have to check it somewhat often and add oil when necessary. It's also prone to carbon buildup so you should rev it high often to burn off the buildup - that's a fun part of owning one though.

i mean like i know the basics of a car but i dont really know everything .
i grew up racing karts on tracks.
i never researched cars
i was into euro but it is too expensive for me.
so i was thinking JDM but i want all wheel drive or RWD.
but AWD is too expensive so is the insurance so it is out of the question.
Only RWD cars that i can afford are : 240sx, RX8
i found a good deal on a 2004 rx8 which has less than 25kmiles.. and it is $14,000

Since you raced karts, you should enjoy the RX-8's handling.

I drive mine every day. It's my main wheels. Gas mileage ain't great. Power is good, but it's not a drag racer. Cornering is...well, let's just say the steering wheel is directly connected to the road.

Only real quirks are that it uses oil, so you have to check it every few fill-ups, and because of the flooding possibility avoid turning it off cold.

You need to read the FAQ and test drive one.

You know you can also get a S2000, IS300, 300ZX.
If you don't mind higher miles, you can also get a G35 or 350Z.
Those are all "JDM"....
Rotary engines aren't engines I recommend unless it's what you want.
You don't want to settle for a rotary engine.
You're probably better off with a IS300 or a G35 for everyday driving and creature comfort.

I dont really care about the gas mileage
since its my first car i just want its handling because that is the only thing that entertains me while im driving...
i dont care about changing the oil.
im just wondering for 4 years would it be a good car for me to drive??
i was thinking about instaling turbo after i got it but it would destroy the warranty.....

Honda civic... if your looking for 4 years out of an already 04 rx8 as a DD. The warranty is only good for 8 years 100k for core engine components and yes the turbo will deny warranty work for engine replacement unless your very skilled at manipulating.

It works. Eesh, people are just taking quite the beating on you.

If you take care of the car, it takes care of you. Don't take care of it, then it's your fault if the car go kaput. I'd suggest you read the new owner FAQs listed above the general discussion page. That'll do you a ton of good.

Define "Pricey".

This car has to have regular maintenance and I'd say above what Mazda recommends.
If basic things like oil changes, flushes, changing the plugs and coils sooner than you would on a “normal” car are pricey then you would do better with something else.
Research has shown that '04's above all other model years will require the most care if the previous owner did do his or her duty.
They are good cars but as was said before you'll have to take care of it and if that's going to burn up your funds then it may not be the right car for you at this time.

There is so much good info here.
Just read up on it.

It shouldn't be. Most of the maintenance is the same as any other car.

Spark plugs are pricey. $80 a set, and they get changed at 35k or 36k miles, vs 60k and less money for a lot of other cars. And coils have a reputation for burning out. On the other hand there's no timing belt to change (at $500 to $1000) every 60k to 90k.

IMHO, some of the folks here who consider the 8 to be high maintenance just enjoy working on their cars. They'll change the plugs and coils every other week, flush the radiator monthly, etc., because it makes them feel good. Just like the guys who enjoy spending a whole weekend waxing and detailing. Nothing wrong with either, really - merely a lifestyle choice.
