Well so far today has been dissapointing. I can't tell whether this guy flaked out on me or whether he forgot his phone or what. Been calling all day and no answer. I don't care if he lost interest in the car, but damn he could at least answer his phone to tell me. If he's a no go then I have a guy who is test driving it Sunday afternoon. Was really hoping to go Speed 3 shopping this weekend but oh well. The car goes into the shop Monday if I don't have any as-is takers by then.

Ok well the original guy flaked out on me. Luckily I had another guy test drive it yesterday. He said he needed a day to think about it. Today he called me and he said he will take it! We are signing papers tomorrow night. On Wednesday he is getting his loan, paying me, and taking the car. I should have the Speed 3 on Saturday.
The deal was $13,500. BUT.... that is with the tree limb damage. He said he didn't need it repaired. So my insurance check for $1,500 is now in my account instead of going to the body shop. That works out to $15,000 even. My original asking price was $14,900, so it worked out good for everyone.

doesn't the insurance company make the check payable to you AND the body shop? (ie it requires 2 signatures to cash.)
that's how they do it here in california, at least- to prevent against INSURANCE FRAUD- which i hope you aren't attempting.

The check is made out to me and only me. The insurance is paying me for damages done to my property. Therefore the money is mine to do with as I please.

Upstate, SC. Not much demand for RX8's anywhere right now. Especially since everyone's money is so tight. I had been trying to sell it for a couple months before I had any offers at all. How do you have it priced? Forget about selling it at Blue Book you may have to go a few hundred below.

car insurance insures the car. unless your policy stipulates that they will pay out for car damage and that it's optional to u whether u fix it or not- then it's fraud- in california at least- ie for using insurance money not for its intended purpose, which is to repair the vehicle.
maybe in your state the laws are different. so, maybe u can explain how it works. i know that in california, they always 2 signatures- body shop + insured. the insurance companies don't like cutting checks unless it's to specifically fix the vehicle. and, they need to know that the body shop cashed the check as proof of the repair.
