I use about 2k miles monthly on the 8
I have been using the rx8 as my daily because it has the most space from my other cars.. I use close to 2k miles monthly..will freeway miles hurt my car..im still learning about the rotary.. I have never had problems.. I do try to keep a high level of maintence on the car from what i read in this forum, but is it smart using it as a daily driver...on any given day i drive 200miles for my job (account mangr)
PS.. I have gotten on the regular 22-24 miles to the gallon (freeway)..i have heard about people getting worse ..besides that i love the car and have had no problems except for breaking my new burnout lip and getting my headlights aligned..

But, I also have wondered whether this can be an only car, or a Daily Driver.
I get worried because I'm a college student, and while I don't mind putting effort into keeping the car running, I can't afford to have it be anything but a daily driver.

Got mine at the end of November and have 10,400 miles. That's a about 2,600 miles per month. I get the oil changed every 3,000 and the tires rotated every other oil change. So far, no problems with using it as a daily driver.

Ultimately, these cars should need *less* maintenance than a boinger. No cam belts, no valve lash adjustment, no carbon buildup on the valveseats / seals / guide, etc...
The only long-term item I can think of other than air filter is the cooling hoses and eventually the water pump.
I drive mine 2000 miles / month, she's my daily (as well as my only car.). The only problem I have is the frustration of having a sports car with a nice motor and never being able to really use it because of perpetual traffic jams. I hate that so much I'm looking to move.
Anyone need a unix/linux admin / network engineer somewhere where the drivin's nice? I've had it with south floriduh.

I am more in sales and also use my 8 as regular car as I dont want to drive a other car anymore !! I do long distances and do approx 3500 miles per month, sometimes 600miles per day and loving it.
If it is serviced regularly its actually better for a rotary as a rotary does not realy like to stand, you dont want the apex or side seals to get sticky due to carbon or oil buildup.
I started experimenting with a oil additive in SA called PS23 (yes realy related to PS 23 in the Bible) it is nearly the same as that one you have in the states but this one draines out when you drain the oil and do not have any moly, chlorine, ptfe, chrome or other additives its some chemical composition, they dont want to tell me, but it prevents oil buildup and carbon builup, and makes everything smoother and when you drain it comes out with the oil no problem, its a darker oil than normal (the additive)
I had no problems, never a starting or overheating problem.
with draining you couldnt see a trace of metal floating (small shining pieces)
I think it works fine

I must use my RX-8 as a daily driver *and* as a 12-month car here in the frozen north (well, frozen in the winter anyway. I can't afford a separate winter car and week-day car and so forth. Our fleet is limited to two - my car and wife's car.
Had it since September, almost to 8,000 miles.
Like Philip_SA, I don't want to drive any other car.

I put about 1500 miles a month on my 8, mostly highway miles, other miles comes from my wife's using the 8 in town. The milage would have been worse if we didn't have a second vehicle, but i can say i really enjoy the 8 as a daily driver. The 8 loves the open road!
For you guys and gals that have to deal with traffic more than actually driving , i pitty you....you guys are really missing out in really driving this car.

Does anybody know if they make a lip spoiler that is almost like a diffuser type lip spoiler. I like all the lip spoilers for the 8, but they seem to make the 8 a little nose heavy. I was looking for a spoiler that can bolt up to the bottom front skid /radiator tray pan and that can still retain the sleek lines of the 8.

Maybe we must learn..
will take quite a while.
and I agree, the front musnt look too heavy then the lines are not the same anymore, I am just a bit worried, I want to lower mine with maybe the eibach or Tein s tech, but with a lip like that it will catch all speed bumps that we have here in South Africa.
but the rest is great !
