I went over redline, am i in trouble?

I was driving today and i punched it (floored it) in 1st gear and accidentally went to 9500 rpm's...i dropped it into neutral right away because i got scared for going that far, is that going to harm my engine or tranny or car in anyway? Thanks in advance for the replies...

Rev limiter is there for a reason

Also, the stock tach isn't 100% accurate

Isn't the rev limiter at 9300 RPMS?

I have no idea but im pretty sure i didnt hit the rev limiter, i have a pretty loud exhaust and would hear the rev limiter yet, i would think...So going to approximately 9500 isnt harmful at all? I mean im not going to do it again, lol...It was accidental.

P.S. Where does the rev limiter hit?

P.S.S. Also since i still have my cat and resonator but have 3 inch pipe to a 2.5 inch Y pipe to exhaust tips (no mufflers), can i still shoot out fireballs? In between gears when im flooring it, i hear little baby backfires i think....

I'm not 100% sure about the limiter, for some reason 9300 seemed familiar to me too but I'm not exactly sure. You should be fine

For future reference, your car will blink a check engine light if anything goes wrong

Would the check engine light stay on, or just blink for a second? Also how about the backfiring (fireball) question...is it possible with my exhaust setup?

Thanks...

Is the true rev limiter at 9000 and our tach just reads ~9300? Makes sense to me

Don't know what exhaust setup you have To easily shoot fire you really need a straight pipe (no Catalytic converter) and have the Air Fuel Ration rich. Happens with consistent high RPMs (ie shift during heavy high rpm load, rev up high after high rpm driving, etc)

A quick blink can mean something such as a simple misfire. Solid light usually means its in the breathing of the engine and thus shouldn't be detrimental to your engine (depends, might kill your Cat). Constant blinking? Well, I've never been there before, my guess would be something very important going very wrong.

Stock some cars will shoot flames every once in a blue moon. Intake/Exhaust got me a bit more (may just have seemed like it). Straight pipe almost shoots too much, I'm scared to accelerate fast into traffic on the highway for fear of law enforcement.

Beeps at 8500, i've gone to 9200, it could be at 9300, or 9500. Some people have done a flash to bump up the limit to 10k.

This old thread lists 9500. I've bounced off it once or twice in a drift, but never looking down, hear the beep? get ready to shift up....

no - the rev limiter kicks in at 9000 (stock ) . The rev counter is 3-500 optimistic so you see 9300-9500 but are actually doing 9000 .

Also - the RB flash takes you to 9300 not 10000 . where did you hear 10k ?

doing it in 1st gear can be a little hard on the box - especially if your shifting technique is not great . However the renesis will love you for hitting the red line as often as possible

Some previous info on the "race flash" led many to believe 10k

basically what there saying is your car is fine. there is a rev limited which you will for sure hear with or without an exaust on your car. Even if you did hit that your car is still fine, just dont drive around bouncing on it.

Ur fine. I went for a data logging session (with data tool hooked into obdII) the other day and purposefully went to around 9200-9300k rpm and when i analyzed the data i found that i actually only went up to like 8800k rpm's. The Tach is not entirely accurate....along lines of what Brettus cited above

8 Maniac, thats messed up dog

From what I remember reading, and I could be wrong, but our engines can handle up to like 13k but the transmission can't. If anything you're hurting your transmission reving that high.

Not in my car. Mine will touch 10 in gear. It stops around 9k when in neutral.
