im lucky. font license plates arent an option here in oklahoma. the dealer was nice they didnt put the bracket on, it still in my trunk. i agree,id risk a ticket not puttin i on if required. front plates on this car look bad.

One other option is to have magnetic "flexible" plates at the front, and mount them on the front of the bonnet above the Maxda Symbol. Then all legal, and still have the nice "smile" at the front end.
Seen a couple of these in the UK, and they look a bit funny, but they do the job

Never had any front plates on any of my cars in 17 years driving in SoCal. Got a speeding ticket once in my VW back in 84 and he didnt even write me up for no front plate, but he did write me up for driver side tint on the window.

No Front Plate
Well I stay in Hou Tx myself also and have not installed a front bracket, I was pulled over the other day for speeding and got a warning on my speeding, but nothing was mentioned about my front plate. Guess I have just been lucky so far.

you guys should get one of those stealth license plate kits that hot rod guys use. its a bracket with a motor and a switch. hit the switch and the plate either tucks away or pops out so you can see it. leave the plate hidden then when a cop pulls you over have it pop out. theyre made for the rear of cars but im sure someone could rig it for the front.
sorry if this was mentioned, i didnt read the whole thread.

Here's a copy of one of my thoughts in a reply to I, Claudius' question.

I'm running without one in Texas (thass right, I'm an outlaw), and so far I've been lucky - one verbal warning in eight or nine years. What I'd really like is some sort of plate bracket that would just snap in and snap out so I could take it on and off quickly. On for road trips, off for cruising around town (where the local constabulary don't seem to care about my missing plate). I guess it'd have to be made custom for the 8. Could something like this be done?

Good industrial velcro would work for that. Any office supply store would have rolls of it and I can assure you that the good stuff could hold up a brick so it would hold your license plate on the front of you car. I would imagine that a bolt that is the same pattern as the bracket could be made with a flat piece of metal spot welded to adhere on side of the velcro to it. This could be painted trim black and left on as the good industrial velcro is black too. Once in while it would have to be changed so that it looked good since it will weather. Then on the back of the plate with frame you would have corresponding velcro attached and you just pop it on, pop it off.
I'm going to look into this method, for sure. I can get the bolts and cut them off then have a friend do the spot welds and paint them myself.
