If the RX-8 came with a 300hp V6 would you be happy or sad?

It only shows one performs better on track and one more forgiving on the street. I don't recall ever saying they are the same, do you even understand the word "similar", big deal with your 4 seat vs 2 seat, I could just easily rephrased it similar to a G35 which is the SIMILAR thing as the Z.
lol, Mr. Sensitivity?

Okay, fine, they'll be 'similar'. Congrats on winning the unrealistic argument!

I see where the point of confusion is now, I was thinking building the 8 from scratch with the V6 in mind. Others were thinking having a V6 in the 8's chassis.

From http://www.autozine.org/html/Mazda/RX8.html: "Low center of gravity, low polar moment of inertia and perfect weight distribution are what all sports car engineers dream for, but not many cars can achieve them. For example, Nissan 350Z with its big V6 engine achieves only 53:47 and a much higher polar moment of inertia because a portion of its V6 hangs over the front axle. Benefited by the weight and size advantage of Wankel engine, Mazda RX-8 can easily beat its opposition even though it is a 4-seater. Chassis engineers will love this car."
Its not that the Nissan engineers can't make it a 50:50 weight distribution in the Z, they intentionally make it 53:47 so they could get close to 50:50 on acceleration. Go watch BMI Vol. 6.

The only reason I bought my RX-8 was the rotary engine. I previously had an RX-2, RX-4, and 3 RX-7s. It had been about 13 years since I had one. The rotary engine is a unique experience!

Yeah, or so they say. I call BS. You don't want 50/50 on acceleration, you want more rear weight bias during acceleration to get better traction for better acceleration. 50/50 is great because in the midcorner when you're basically coasting, you can adjust your line much easier. Having said that though, a bit more rear bias is actually preferable for a track car in most conditions since acceleration out of corners is so important.

By the way, a RX without a rotary is not a RX.

If the Rx-8 had a V6 , it would be called a MX-8. Most of all of Mazdas coupe's V6's got the designation of MX-?. ex: MX-3,MX-6, etc.

Without the rotary it just wouldn't be the same....

Hell yeah. In fact, I'd LOVE an MX8 with the MS6 Engine providing motivation.

Some day I may swap in an LS2 or, hell, even an S2K engine.

wouldn't have bought it. More torque requires pistons and cranks. Rotaries are sweet just the way they are.

I too would have bought something else. The rotary is what MAKES this car. Like many others I would be driving a 350Z or G35 coupe.

Besides gas mileage, what advantages do you have with that?

No I wouldn't be too happy. They got a RX8 test mule to 255 hp with the Renesis, can't see why it can't be done. Or either turbo it, or 3 rotor it and call it day. Why 300 hp V6 ? If you are going to butcher the car, they already have RX7's with LS1's in them, so why not a lightweight V8 then ? But the Renesis can be improved on. Just needs some work on it.

I see no proof that Mazda is in fact working on it anymore. Give me something!

same as most others, if it would have come with a V6 I would have went and bought a 350Z

My car tickles me every day from the fact that is more unique then 99% of other cars on the road today.
