If the RX-8 came with a 300hp V6 would you be happy or sad?

If you are going to butcher the car, they already have RX7's with LS1's in them, so why not a lightweight V8 then ? But the Renesis can be improved on. Just needs some work on it.

fuel prices need to go down for me to be completely happy with the 8. otherwise, my $45 dollars to fill up every 200+ miles hurts my wallet bigtime.
I would want more torque, better economy, power that's close to the 250hp figures originally anounced. then i'd be happy. so far this car's been bulletproof in terms of reliability. It sucks less oil at 15k miles.

since when was a renesis a lightweight it is compact but in terms of weight i don't know, the thing has a lot of cast iron in it. I'm sure there are aluminum blocked V6s making 300 hp that weigh in similarly to the renesis (albeit with a higher center of gravity)

Point being that a 3-rotor isn't guaranteed to be better than a 300hp v-6. If you add on all the extra weight of turbos, intercoolers, and all the plumbing you also lose at least part of the advantage of a NA renesis. I love rotaries, but there seems to be no real way to win with them... They're either small, compact, underpowered, and reliable - or large, hugely complex , respectably powered, and unreliable.

EDIT - Actually I see the confusion in my original post now. I meant to point out that whether you go the 3-rotor route, or the turbo route, you add on complexity and weight to the engine so you no longer have the benefit of the original renesis.

See above.

In answer to the original post.... NO WAY!!! I bought this car because of the Rotary Engine
A great example of a 20b and its balance is the RE Amemyia Asparadrink RX7 race car. Thats naturally aspirated and dam fast!

Having said that though, a bit more rear bias is actually preferable for a track car in most conditions since acceleration out of corners is so important.
By the way, a RX without a rotary is not a RX.
