I'm always speeding

I'm always speeding
...according to everyone I know. I absolutely HATE when people tell me that. It really gets on my nerves. It seems to me that people have a problem distinguishing between driving the speed limit and acceleration.
People hear the 8 approaching redline and automatically think I am over the speed limit even if its just first gear. I've even been pulled over because he thought I was "moving fast."
If this happens so much in the 8, I wonder what kind of treatment the Honda Civics with fart cannons get.
The only way I can convince people I'm not speeding is by granny shifting, or having them lean over and look at the speedometer. Then I get the usual "Oh."
The two times I have been pulled over, both cops didn't have their radar on. I have a radar detector and I have passed many cops and none of them have done anything because they can SEE on their RADAR that I'm not speeding, but it seems some cops like to go by sound which really doesn't mean anything.
If sound was the only indication of speeding, then they'd be pulling over my next door neighbors Buick because that thing sounds like a train.
Its kinda upsetting, infact its very upsetting. They both gave me warnings, but they didn't even consider it aggressive driving. They only considered it speeding.
I saw someone on the boards who said they got pulled over for accelerating quickly away from a light and there was a cop behind him that he didn't see. I think they told him he was driving aggresively. Oh, well.

I'll ask my passengers how fast they think I'm going - they'll say 60. I'll show them the speedo - Actually going 85. The car is so smooth that the speed is deceptive. Usually it seems the car isn't going as fast as it is due to the lack of noise.

I learned to drive stick on my new RX-8, and one person who rode with me said I should shift around 3,000 RPM, another person said 4,000. I don't know if they realized the car doesn't redline until 9,000. Did I read correctly that the Corvette redlines at 6,000? Anyway, I decided to ignore their advice and shift at 5,000+. The car feels too wimpy at low revs.

As the rev band climbs the car does throw you back a bit in the seat. The reality is I can get to 30mph and have it feel faster. As Jason said, the car is so smooth it is deceiving. Especially to a non-8 driver. Also, be careful when accelerating hard (or 5kRPM+ in the 8), the Police do have a law against "agressive displays of speed" or something like that. I have received a ticket for this many moons ago in Houston, TX. Not festive...considering I was driving a neon!!! :D

I had the same problem with my old 84 Capri RS (mod=305hp). I'd drive down the neighborhood street at 30km in 1st gear and everybody thought I was speeding because of the big sound. If I put it in 2nd and drove 50km....no looks.
go figure.

yea the car is pretty deceptive when it comes to engine noise and speed..i got the racingbeat cat-back...and it is pretty dociel (spelling) at lower rpm.'s and engine load/throttle postion...but she will scream when you open her up at WOT
ps.s i believe Wide Open Throttle and Full Throttle are synominous (spelling again?)

on my way home I have to pass by a golf course, a pool and a tennis court, well after I bought the car they put speedbumps in front of the pool. Now that summer is over they removed them, but there is construction and there is a giant hole across the whole road. Well out of respect I turn of my music, and of course have to slow down because of the construction. these guys were playing tenis all afternoon, about the fourth time I passed there game they yell at me "hey you need to slow down!", while my speedo read 3 mph. I drove down the road turned around came back and they started mouthing off I came to a complete stop they turned completely white I wanted to get out and kick their ***. Mom's always complaining i speed past the pool and scare the children, they love my car. Discrimination!
