Thanks, going in to the fifth week the body shop has my car, I really needed the laugh. I do however still feel like going medieval on someone or something. They should be glad they're 4 hours from here.

I am feeling your pain, 18K miles in 4 months (33k total) and no issues, other then my idle started to get rough, but I switched to a K&N filter and smoothed her right out, and I am getting closer to 21 in city now (that could change back to 19 anytime tho).
Oh and that rofl copter is the best.

ya just the drop in, since there isn't much to be had from after market CAI, I just figured I would save my money for exhaust parts. I also noticed that if you floor it on the highway it is decently audible now, and feels more responsive though not really more powerful, just responds to the throttle better. Like the power is more available.

The car's not perfect—I DO have that slimy, cappucino-colored oil in the dipstick when it's cold. Good thing, too! I was starting to think I don't have an RX-8!!!

I have 41k miles...going on 42k..I had slime in the oil, got a catch-can under warranty (which all 2006+(maybe 2005?) RX8's have).
Also had a problem with an odd grinding sound (a lot of the conspiracy theorists here would probably call it marbles in a can..sigh) which turned out to be my throw-out bearing. Common problem with my other RX7's and lots of RX8's too, so. Got it replaced under warranty.
Never any blown engines, no blown coil packs, no hesitations (even with my RE intake and cheapo Pep Boys filter). I have marbles-in-a-can, though. See?

I'm at 68k miles and my 8 seems to defying the rules of the rotary. I took it in for a 60k mile checkup last week and found out that my seemingly fine car was actually on the brink of death (and had been for some time).
I get a phone call around 10:00...
"Hey, the tech just drove your car and said it felt fine. The transmission was a *bit* notchy, and it seemed to be just a little shy on power. He thinks that switching to a synthetic tranny fluid could take care of both problems. I'll give you a call when he's got it up on the lift."
Then I get around 10:30...
"HOLY DEAR GODZ DONGOM GOMGOMGO MAHDOIJ ADGKJALMD AJ'AJ;DFJ !!!!111oneone. D00d, do you drive under water or something?? Your spark plugs look like hell! I don't even know how they were firing! They were 100% rust, and the cabling was 100% rust as well. We couldn't get them to spark after we took them out they were so bad. I've never seen anything like this in 20 years! Call you back when we find more."
So I get another call at 10:45...
"D00D!!!!11oneoneeleven No offense but do you grind your gears for fun at red lights? When we drained ur tranny enough metal shavings came out to smelt a new frame for your car! I have no idea how this could have happened, nor why the tranny doesn't feel worse. I hope you have enough to buy a new transmission within a year. Call you back when we're done."
Finally, I get the last call at 11:15...
"OK, we're done and we drove it. It... umm... somehow feels fine, now.... Be careful...?"
I bought it with 47k miles on it, and based on the maintenence history I've seen, that person, was, indeed, a rotard. I'd like to blame all damage on the previous owner, and take full credit for making a "dead" car drive perfectly for 21k

I put about 30k on a car a year. With an extended waranty, that leaves me MORE than enough time to determine if this engine was a keeper or a time bomb. If she started showing problems, I am certainly a qualified professional when it comes to trausing a 13b within an hours notice. I bought it after it had sat on the lot for 28 days without ever being touched, turned it on, and drove 2 hours to College Station like I had stolen the bitch. Upon arriving to CS, I showed it off to everyone that I knew that went to A&M, nearly crashed it twice, took it blazing down some dirt roads, and even got it airborne (broke my f**king foglights though, and those bitches aren't cheap).
I had an FC that I ragged on for 130,000 miles before the engine died. Then I had an FD that I ragged on for 9,000 before the engine (almost) died. This was the first RX of mine that had a nice, big, juicey waranty. My plan was simple - commit Renisis genocide to make sure I didn't get another FD 13b(omb), but rather an FC 13b(lessing). No leaks, no "marbles", no rattles, no hard starts, no loss of power, no major mechanical problems at all! The only thing "wrong" with my 8 is that the foglights are shattered, and the sunroof wont close all the way. Ironically, I broke the foglights on my FC, and it's sunroof wouldn't always close completely... reincarnation, perhaps?
Edit: props to AdRock for catching my "rotard" comment.
