Every time you buy an auto, Jesus kills a baby seal. With a kitten.

If you've been reading this forum then you would know there are thousands that have not had any problem with thier 04s. The flooding etc. etc . was taken care of with the battery/starter TSB if flooded and towed. Please read with comprehension and you will learn this.

I would highly recommend a Manual Tranny.. AT makes ridiculous horsepower for what you are getting and MT has higher resale value (::cough-sucks:: )

Don't EVER even THINK about buying an RX-8 in an automatic transmission. I wish Mazda would only make the MT for the RX-8, because I see absolutely no point in having this car with an AT. I might think it would be all right if it wasn't grossly underpowered compared to the MT. For an 04, you're looking at 197 hp for the AT, and 232 hp for the MT.

Blue 04 RX8

04 65,000 miles no problems except re-call for replacing battery + spark plugs by Mazda for being hard to crank.

My '04 has 45k miles on it, and I've had no problems. Just because it's an '04 doesn't mean you're going to have problems

Its really a matter of opinion. Since the 04 was the first model year, you know what they say...Wait till the bugs are out. While many have had problems with there 04 and 05's, Mazda has made good on them with recalls and their warranties, Many 04 owners have not had any problems at all. Bottom line is proceed with caution on any used car, especially the first model year out. Attempt to get a used car warranty if possible and have it thoroughly checked out by a mazda mechanic as most mechanics don't have a clue about these rotary engines. As far as the auto trans vrs the manual, I personally have the manual and would not even consider the auto...Also dont care for the paddle shifters or all that new stuff...but everyone is different. Just keep in mind that the auto matic will be alot slower off the line and pulls over 40 less horsepower. Good luck with whatever you decide. The Rx8 is the finest car I have ever owned. 07 GT velocity red.

Most people dont know that theres that big of a diff between the auto and manual, Ive just noticed that lately. Thats why theres so many people that log onto here thinking they found a stellar deal on a fully loaded 04 auto with 30K miles for 12 grand but they dont realize that its a different car from the manual. Hence why these people should..........starts with an "S"............

I've had an 04 new and live in Calgary where it's cold as hell sometimes and warm others and have never had a problem starting, flooding or anything except fogging in tail lites and minor issues. I drive the car hard but don't abuse and I love it. just turned 58,000KLMS and going strong.
Lots to go yet!

Your barking up a wrong tree. The ECU was re-flashed and fixed the problem.

Outside of asking the original owner, how do you know if any given car has been in for the TSB?

Get the Vin # off the car and take it to the dealer.

They can look it up.

i was in the same shoes as yours, i was worried about the flooding, but your shouldn't worry about that because the dealer should fix that at no charge for you. It's a beautiful car, i bought mine an 04 black with 38K miles...GT=) Very good car, but u better be ready for gas. This car burns alot of gas just like a V6.
