When I first joined, I had never even been on a forum so I had no idea how to even work the thing. I wondered into the NE section and found a thread that seemed interesting and then posted. Rotr8 replied to what I posted (because I was wrong on my date calculation for a meet). He then taught me how to work the forum, so there was no need for me to ask a question which could be found in a search. It's the same premice in this situation. You help the newb, tell the newb to search, then flame the newb a lil for fun, and then say we are just playing around having some fun don't take it personal because most of us have been through the same thing.

Rory is a post *****. He started really posting in May 09. Hes almost 3k post now. Its not suprising that he was the first to post in your intro thread. Really the n00bs should search before creating a thread and we need to creat such a rule.
If your into any type of extreme computers, hardware, software, gaming or the like you probably have visited such a forum. Those nerds are the worst when it comes to posting. I believe you need like a minimum of 50 or so posts in order to create a thread. And flames on any mistake. I say were much more lax here, but do it in a more of a welcome to the club thing. The reason I replied with such sarcastic behavior is because the OPs was so generic in his question asking about exhaust of all things. Which is a gateway to asking about superchargers and turbos or the like in a follow up post.
If a n00b came in here asking what type of difference (mechanical & performance) between for an example the BHR ignition coils, MSD Ignition coils, or the stock Mazda coils. I'd be impressed and offer valuable help. Because it proves that the n00b is actually interested in what would work the best for his/her application, if their going for performance or liability.
But creating a thread on a such generic topic "exhaust" is pointless as a quick look on the other subforums would have the same thread topic posted. No searching involved. Or possibly type in google, "Exhaust for Rx8" and would bring up many different options.

Now thats over, to be more beneficial to you. The JIC is great its a little louder than stock but not by much and gives it a more aggressive tone. You really hear it in the higher rpms.
There are many exhausts out there, most common would be Racing Beat, HKS, and Borla.
Racing beat would be my choice out of the 3, as their more mazda specific. And their exhaust sounds great. I would have purchased their catback if I didnt get a deal on my JIC from a forum member here.
Here are a lists of companies you should do research on here in the club or internet/youtube.
Racing Beat
BHR
HKS
Agency Power
JIC
Greddy
Tanabe
Borla
Exotic Speed
I would take a look at those companies listed above and choose the couple you think fits you the best. Come back to this thread with the options you have choosen and we will work with you then.
Once we come to a conclusion and your satisfied; please use the search function for any simple questions you may have.

Call me old fashioned, but I live by the golden rule, if I can help people, whether classified as "N00b or veteran" I'll help! I'd rather people be kind to me when I'm in need of help than have someone bash me for not knowing.
We've ALL been noobs at one point or another, some of us still are. Learning is a long process...in any passion or interest. It's the pretentious "know it alls" who give others bad reps and therefore lead people to believe that "Rx8 drivers are dicks." that's how stereotypes happen, and really, we're a very welcoming community. select people want to get their panties in a twist and feel that they're "too good" to help someone new to the community, then all for them, but being a kind person, in return, deserve kind actions.

The only way to truly know what exhaust is for you is to experience them in person. As was stated previously, find a local meet and attend. Then you can hear an assortment of exhausts and decide what one you like best and you can hear midpipes to decide if you want to go with a high flow CAT, CAT delete, or stick with OEM.

Now, back on topic, are you looking for something quiet, loud, quit/loud, etc... If you tell us what it is you are looking for in an exhaust, we can better give you suggestions. I personally was running AP (Agency Power) catback and a hollowed out Supercat Midpipe. I loved the set up and thought it to be the perfect combination between quiet and loud. AKA, it would be quiet for the most part and loud when I wanted it to be. When at cruising speed, all I could here is a very quiet low rumble in the background. But, when I gunned it, anyone around knew I was there and saw my flames.

And to add to Rorys comment above. The AP is the most raspy catback available for the 8, esp when paired with a cat delete or mid pipe. It does sound good though and really does get your attention. But everyones definition of loud is different, personally I think the AP is loud after having the JIC installed for a while.
At first I did a custom exhaust which was more for a test, and it sounded like a street bike on crack in the higher rpms. That was quickly taken down.
