The importance of redlining the Rx-8
#27
You can redline in 1st from a stoplight/sign in a 35MPH zone, without speeding. You can nail it in 2nd by merging onto the interstate, if the speed limit is 60 or higher.
Since I don't drive the 8 every day, I make up for it by redlining quite often when I do get to drive it. Or at least that's my excuse for such behavior.

Having trouble finding a place to redline your car?!?! Holy **** man. I used to redline my 8 several dozen times a week on the commute to and from work. It was just natural.
Just drive it hard a couple of times each time out. I'm not saying rag or beat on your car, but run it up through at least first and second to redline at wide open throttle, shifting smoothly, and have fun with your car.

I've cruised on the freeway at redline in 2nd gear for a couple of minutes just to eject carbon, more than once. I kept my eye on the temp gauge, but no problems, engine liked it just fine.

Keep in mind that the FC in that video was sitting still, so the coolant system wasn't able to work properly. Heat is what will kill a rotary sitting at redline, as you can see from that video.
Actually driving on the road at redline, you can probably empty the gas tank before the engine dies.
Also keep in mind that the 8 redlines at 9k while the FC redlines at 8k, so that was like an 8 sitting at 10k with no air going through the radiator. And the engine didn't tear itself apart, the coolant system just couldn't keep up.
