I did a 200 mile trip this past weekend -- mostly winding two-lane roads plus a little interstate cruising (plus a Beltway traffic jam caused by a Mercury Sable that had caught fire). I filled up before and after the drive, and I was pleased to record 24.2 mpg. I confess that I did not reach the redline on this trip, but I spent quite a bit of time between 4k and 7k rpm, which is only to say that I was not taking it particularly easy.

I have a very very early 2004, but i don't think my mileage is a problem. Midtown Manhattan traffic isn't really city driving so much as it's just a traffic jam. Other than that, I get decent mileage. The 1.3L argument doesn't really hold water when you're talking fuel economy...my Infiniti I-35 was a 3.5L v6 that got 33 mpg on the highway and about 29 in town no matter how hard you pressed the pedal

on my last tank i was driving from columbus to cincy. for the first 70 miles or so i was driving around 80-85, but after that decided to keep the revs under 3750 and so set the cruise on 72. i got about 260 miles from the tank (a record for me) but still only got 20mpg. on this tank im trying to keep it under 3750 for the entire tank and see what i get, but it does not appear that i am going to do any better than 21 or so. my typical mpg is 15-16, so its a definate improvment but still not near what it should be.

Gas Mileage

2005 Velocity Red, Auto w/ Sports package.

Gas mileage: 17.5 mpg city (not New York City driving) and 23.9 mpg highway, running at 70-80mph. Combination city/highway driving, I’m getting 19.6mpg. Now that the engine is broken in, the fun really begins.

DUDE!!! That's terrible!! We got our cars at about the same time (Jan. '05) and mine just turned 7600 mi. You really need to start taking the long way home from work. :p
