I've been getting hardstarts every now and then (approx. once every 10 times I turn on iginition) but I can't really see a pattern. I never turn off the car unless it has reached normal operating temperature. So why am I still getting hardstarts?

 

One of the rotary's little mysteries unfortunately...... the same thing happens to me occassionally as well.

 

I've been having the same problem lately. Generally leaving the key in the On position for about 20 seconds before cranking it cures any hard start problems, but sometimes even with the 20 second wait, I'll get an ugly grating noise when trying to crank it. I've been considering mentioning that to the dealer on my next oil change...I read about somebody replacing their crank amp with a stronger one?

 

Mazda say that anything upto 6 tries is normal.

 

Never had any of these hardstarts...I get in, I turn the key and she stars after a couple of quick cranks, everytime. Doesn't matter if the car is fired for the first time or after a long drive....and I drive her like no tomorrow.

 

I've noticed that when my gas light is lit that it seems to take a few extra cranks to get it started. Other than that, it always cranks right up.
