Try to get a policy off of your parents. It is way cheaper than getting your own. Also some of those guys are right, it depends on what type of coverage you get, whether you get full coverage or not. Idk what the laws on that stuff is like up in Canada but down here in the States you can just have liability insurance and pay towards that instead of everything.

Getting married or turning 25 are your only real good options for getting cheaper insurance. i bought my 2006 rx8 when i was 22 if it wasent for having been married and having multi vehicle policy with the house i woulda been paying $400-500 a month but now its only $200 with full coverage and $1000 deductible with State Farm. I had a 2002 Protege 5 before i got the RX and before i was married i had to put the car in my dads name and insurance because i was hit by an old woman and blammed at fault. It is possible to have the car in your dads name i dont know how legal it is tho. i do know driving any where with the car always made me uneasy about getting pulled over or hit again.

the pic didn't load for me for which you posted this comment, but you, like most 19 year old kids, need to drop the attitude. a lot of good people have chimed in to help your dumbass, and like it or not, a couple people here and there are gonna poke fun at you. deal with it and move on, but you're not racking up friends with sh-t like that.

and for the LAST F*CKING TIME, SHOP AROUND FOR A BETTER RATE. there isn't anything anyone else here can do for you. jesus.

Yeah I realize that, but most of u guys are a-holes about it... Like that idiot saying that hes in it to see me get screwed? I'm not an idiot I know that if I can't sort out the insurance and get a better rate, realistically I'm not going to get the car. But I believe I'll find a way, ill shop around and be driving my VR this summer

Fera,

Your dad didn't call and tell them exactly that right? The story that you want to save some money by having him buy the car, but you drive it? I sure hope you didn't say that because of course that's not going to work.

If your dad called and told them that "I'm buying a second car as my recreational toy, I want insurance myself as primary driver, and occasional for my family members.", then I cannot see why the insurance company will say no.

That's like saying, I want to buy a second car, and I want insurance on it, and the insurance company is saying no they will not insure you.

Yeah well I don't know exactly what he said. But I'm going to make sure I'm with him when he calls next time because I don't see how what your saying wouldn't work. Because why would I have to be a primary driver under his car if he got a m6 or something

Thanks for ur help footman

In a family that has 3 drivers and 3 cars, one person cannot be insured on two different cars. Each driver has to be listed as a primary on one of the cars. That is how it is through state farm around here, not sure if its the same in canada.

^ i've never heard of that, sounds like a state farm thing to me.

there's the named insured and a resident spouse, then other named insureds if applicable or "family members". a son living at home qualifies as a family member...doesn't matter if they have one car each of if the dad has 20 cars...so what you're saying doesn't make sense to me. what ruined the dad claiming the rx8 as his, was i bet the conversation started with "my son is buying an rx8, how much will that cost"...so when he tried to go back on that and say "oh well i mean what if it is my car, not his"...and the agent said bullsh-t i know it's for him so we're not changing the quote now.

either the dad buys the car in his name and the son stays as is...as a 'family member' that can drive any of the 3 cars, or the son gets his own policy w/ a different company as the named insured. that's it. sounds like this guy's company sucks. (or have the dad call, switch ALL cars and house, and immediately claim the rx8 in his name instead of the son's).

Canada is the same. You can only be the primary driver on more than one car if there are more cars then drivers.

If each driver didn't have to be listed as a primary, then everyone would be going around putting their cheapest family member to insure as the primary driver on every vehicle. Im not saying all company's regulate this, but you have got to admit, essentially you want to cheat the system by saying your dad is the primary driver of 2 cars where you are not a driver on any of them. The way i learned to "cheat the system" is to put the most expensive person to insure on the least expensive car to be insured. I.E. you on the old caddy which presumably only has liability, and your dad on your car which presumably will have full coverage.

Is this your own policy? Or did your parents have to switch their whole insurance company? And do you live in canada?
