Insurance rates
To my pleasant surprise, I just called State Farm and was told that I would be saving over $200 per year if I lease a new RX-8 compared to my current '01 Mustang GT.
I guess the 4 doors and five star safety rating make this one of the safest sports cars out there.
More reason to make the jump.

I also drove a 2001 Mustang GT and also have State Farm as my insurance provider. They dropped my overall expense by $100 to $200 per year (in that ballpark) I forget exactly how much. The explanation that I got from the agent (and you've got to figure Insurance Agents are only 2 rocks up the hill from Car Salesmen when it comes to lying) is that this car is has no history. So they rated it at a risk-rating of "16" the Mustange was an "18". If they lose their *** on 8's this year it'll go up to an "18" or a "19". If they make money, then it'll drop the rating (Yeh sure!).
Interesting that someone mentions the five-star safety rating. That's the first I've heard of that designation. Out of curiosity, are there references available where I can read more about who rated it, what kind of testing was done, etc? When I was shoppping in late November and early December, according to Consumer Reports it hadn't been crash tested and they had no safety rating. Could be a Consumer Reports problem. Would love to know more about the safety rating specifics though.

The mustang has been out for a long time. It's one of the most popular american sports cars, and that's one of the reasons they get stolen quite often. The RX8 just came out and therefore insurance companies have not had a chance to rate them as high or low risk vehicles just yet.

Try Amica insurance. My wife was hit by someone with Amica and the same day they had her Audi in the shop (our choosing) and we had a check by the beginning of the following week. Their rates are very competitive if you have a good driving record. I am a mortgage loan officer and deal with insurance companies all day long . I see the prices that companies charge and their customer service and there are a few that excel and most just kinda get the job done when they're pushed. Often times to the lack of their customers satisfaction.
Oh and I have USAA. My insurance dropped by about $300 every six months when I traded in my M3. I think I pay about $84/month for the RX-8 and the Audi A4.

I had Amica about 24 years ago and loved 'em. Then I got a company car and sold my personal ride. Dropped all insurance (nice!!). Anyway I did keep Amica for my home. The home was broken into and destroyed by arsonists and they (Amica, not the arsonists) were first class when it came to processing and settling the claim. I'd recommend them to anyone. Makes me wonder why I'm still diddling around with State Farm.
