CA Insurance Valuation

Hey all,

First thank you all for everything you do to help owners and home mechanics like myself work on the 8, I loved it and my car.

This is just me venting....
I got rear ended hard yesterday, and my previous experience in insurance, based on my bad luck just last october where my fiat got rear ended, taught me that this my beloved 8 is likely to be declared a total loss by insurance. My fiat had a subframe weld buckled and I never saw it again, my poor 8 got smashed by some kid in a benz and the force was great enough to make the door gaps flex enough to see paint damage on the edges of my doors, and I got pushed into the car in front of me, wrecking my front and busting something in the radiator. If insurance decides its repairable I'd be amazed and take my 8 back, the engine was solid and I had just gotten everything back to 100% after a year of ownership.

Here's my real question.
TLDR, anyone else ever been wrecked and how much did insurance offer for a not at fault accident on an 05 great condition Rx8? Imma go back to being depressed.
In So Cal if that matters...

Sorry to hear about that, glad you're okay!

Well, I think if they decide the total it, it would definitely be one heck of a battle..
From what i've seen online and from a couple of my buddies, if the car is totalled they usually give you the amount of money it's worth on the open market, since you say your rx8 was in good condition, I would think maybe 6-12k from what I've seen. If that still doesn't cover it or not satisfied you could always fight back to see if you can get a little more..
I did also see a thread from 2006 that included getting a retail price out of totaled one, 22k but that was from some time ago..
On a side note, lets hope they just fix everything and include replacing the engine..

Sorry again to hear about that accident. I know I would be upset if I lost mine.. but if you can I would try to get as much money as possible from the insurance company since it isn't your fault.
I don't know what your plans are, but I did find a couple of good conditioned RX8's in your area I believe, but I'm not too sure if it's close to you at all

Take my information with a grain of salt, since I am no-where near you

Thanks again everyone. In the back of my mind I am still crossing my fingers that they will fix it, but I'm planning for the worst.

I'll def check out the links asap cause doing research is far better than sitting on my hands while insurance works on it.

Thanks again.
