Stock intake is perfect maybe get a k&n drop in filter. Then go for the exhaust

I'd go with exhaust, because it makes the 8 sound oh so nice.

Exhaust.

As chino cites drop in a K&N flat filter (~$50) in the stock intake.

Note that neither an aftermarket intake nor exhaust will buy you much add'l performance, but the exhaust may at least sound better (ear of the beholder Borla, MS, Racing Beat, Agency, etc....).

AP is a good choice in exhausts... you can find a few used for pretty cheap right now too...

+1 Intake doesn't add much.

As said above drop-in K&N with a cat back exhaust. Save you some dough.

Also you could run the Drop-in with the Racing Beat Duct and still save a few bucks

Call me crazy, but I have Racing Beat REV intake with ram air and I feel the thottle response is better especially at highway speed and the stock exhaust sounds much nicer.

I bought the Mazdaspeed exhaust and I love the sound.

The stock airbox is a cold air intake. I'm considering the Mazdaspeed intake but not as keen on it as I am on the exhaust.

Sound clips lie. Don't depend on them. Listen to exhaust and intake sounds in person if you possibly can.

In my own case I did somewhat similar in addressing the intake first, since at the time I found the exhaust adequate. I actually mated the Racing Beat Duct to my stock airbox (had to adapt a short section of VFAD) and dropped in a K&N filter along with removing the two plastic baffles. That's probably all I'll ever do to the intake.

Next year I may go with a Borla (weight savings and deep sound) or a MS (keep it Mazda).

But again, I think the OP should go for the exhaust, since he's more looking for the sound aspect.

No problem, can you control how low you want it? I dont know anything about lowering cars. I wanted to drop mine a little bit.

the only way you can control the ride high is with coilovers- which are adjustable and are practical for racing apps

The S.Techs that I have will give you a drop of 1.5 front .8 rear.

Also, take a look at the Suspension area of the board. There you will find a thread that is a sticky named "Look Lowering Springs". If you search the pages you will see all different types of suspension pixs that people are running on their 8's.
Good Luck
