you guys bash them up for good.. so much for old geezers who thinks they know everything
It just keeps me reminded, that Rx7club people are so much more mature and actually knows A LOT about rotary than majority of people here

No wonder they don't see us as rotary enthusiasts
and no respect for 7s or whatsoever

Well generally speaking, if you buy something you should know wtf it does. And if you don't know what it does, either look it up, or ask a question. The original poster did not ask "what is an intercooler?" He said he's thinking about one. But all indications are that he does not run FI. I don't think anyone has a problem with answering basic questions, and in general, all of the responses are pretty light-hearted. No one said anything nasty to him.

Go ask on the rx7club what the best head gasket is for the FD and see if you don't get flamed harder.

the people here are very freindly and happy to answer questions.
I wonder what would happen if I went on rx7club.com and started this thread...

"Piston rings"

I think I need to replace my piston rings, car is leaking oil. Can someone tell me what size pistons the rx7 has so I can buy the right size?

Thanks.

I have visited 7club a few times, and while helpful, they are anything but mature and would jump all over it. You seem to have subscription, why don't you post that very question and see what happens.

To give you a real answer, unless your car is sporting forced induction, which we have assumed it's not, you can make no use of an intercooler. Perhaps you are confused with another term, radiator perhaps?

first of all, that linked thread only has about 6 replies, and the third one is someone calling the thread starter a troll because rotaries don't have head gaskets.

seriously, if someone doesn't do the proper research before starting a thread asking such a ridiculous question, then you can't blame people for laughing.

I hear his next question is how he can optimize the VTEC.

I thought I posted a serious response. I showed him an intercooler that will work with a non FI car and even the blowoff valve speaker to make it complete. I was only trying to be helpful.

shak, the fact that the mods here did not close the thread is a pretty good sign that things were kept out of the weeds. If you look at the other posts from the thread starter, they are mostly about appearance so he might have meant to put this in that area.

Now, personally, I really appreciate the information that has been generated as a result of this thread. In a million years I would not have guessed that there were fake intercoolers and blow off valves.

For decades there have been bogus performance products on the market that claim to work but don't, it was amazing to learn that there are products that have no intention of working at all and their only purpose is to pretend to do something. $150 for baseball cards in the spokes.

haha I bet it adds like 500 hp!!! :D :D
You know what's really funny about the fake intercooler? When you
put it in front of the radiator it's going to reduce airflow and make the engine run hotter.

I have two pet peeves regarding forums--people who don't know/care about the search button and those who ask people to summarize information for them because they're too lazy to read the previous messages themselves. When I see that it's flamin' time. People that ask novice questions that haven't been answered in a previous thread are likely to get intelligent, reasoned responses from me that either show why their question was poorly asked or provide the answers they were looking for. Regardless, stupid is as stupid does and contemplating an intercooler purchase without any FI is plain stupid--but if you look back at the previous posts you'll notice no one ever called him that. We made fun of his question sure, but not the person.

This thread is veering off-topic, but regarding your pet peeves... Experienced forum users, due to their wealth of knowledge, tend to be more irritated at posters, who appear to have done insufficient research. I tend to be a lot calmer with regard to that, since I am not all that familiar with the RX-8.

I think one has to strike a balance between "newbie friendliness" of a forum and the amount of such "redudant threads." A forum attracts all sorts of people, many of them with little previous "forum experience", many are excited new owners, who are total "n00bs". I say, offer more stickies with summaries of common topics. Expand and highlight the RX-8 FAQ significantly. I think steps like that will reduce the number of such "n00b" posts (although this one, asking about intercoolers on our NA cars.... yeah, I guess there's not much you can do here). Another step is to be friendlier and less acerbic at replying to newbie posts. You never know, one may scare off a good contributor/forum member with a little bit too much harsh language for early mistakes.

This is, by the way, not pointing fingers at anyone... just some thoughts on the 'newbiness" of them all... (including me)

My $.02

I congratulate all of you. Without any prompting whatsoever (well...a little,) this thread has turned quite intelegent and informative. In my mind, this proves shak wrong that we are all a bunch of baddies.

Furthermore, in my experience, any random social engagement may display thoughtful, witty, provocative, insightful and sometimes pointed exchanges. You either have to develop a little leather on your skin, or withdrawl as the original thread starter did. I would encourage miriclleboy to return and give us what for. No one here is swinging bats at his head. Just some verbal jabs at his post. We still dont know if he bought a t4 and ducktaped it to his intake and now would like and upgrade to an intercooler. It is perfectly reasonable. So M-boy? Fess up.

I remember seeing fake slotted rotors. They were metal disks you fit between the wheel and hub that sport a picture of slotted rotors and hit the real ones behind them. Not only did they look bad they also reduced the airflow around the brakes which would cause them to heat up more. Truly cheesy.
