I think this is going to be my new signature....

RX-8 is a road-handling weapon in the right hands. If his dyno number (290) at the wheels? If so, you're going to have your hands full.

Out of all the forums in the world you browse the worst.... LOL
Sounds like an interesting race... and if the evo owner has no ***** to do tripod mode on that car then for sure the rx8 got him.. Similar power levels. I've seen so many terrible awd drivers at auto-x its not even funny anymore..

This sums up the idiocy of both right here:

"We wagered in the high thousands"

I wish I had thousands of dollars to bet on a race...

Sounds like bs. Guy doesn't even know if he's on stock suspension or lowered. Watched to many faster and furiouser movies.

unless this evo guy is pretty good... it sounds like the 8 has the advantage cause if anything, it sounds like he's practiced rather frequently on the track.

Evo dude gonna lose even before the race has started.

Im pretty sure the 8 owner, whoever that is, has tons of confidence in his skills on that track, I know confidence is not the total factor, but its a very important one, sometimes it can even make impossible things possible.

The 8 owner didnt even say much only told him full suspension and turbo and the evo owner already wet his pants ...

The funny thing is, there was a guy in the Evo forum said Evo was made for Track ... Yeah ok, It was made with WRC in mind. what a freaking moron.

For some reason, all kinds of AWD drivers like Evo and STi has this kinda thoughts, is that they believe cars that were made for WRC will be the best thing on anything. but remember WRC is a race where you have to race on muds, uneven roads, and even snow or ice. ON a regular Tarmac track, AWD does not have much advantage over any other types of car.

the one guy that said to race him on a wet track had it right. :P

the rx8 will win. this guy has already lost his confidence. unless he makes a dramatic start and gains some confidence, he will miss shifts, go off line around turns, and not push the car as hard as he possibly could.

wow, we got some bad rep from the guy that posted the ff :

"you have to ask yourself will a boosted RX-8 will even manage to make it through the race without blowing up? That would be most impressive."

I also have some reservations. The uncle with the 'multi-million' dollar track sounds a bit fanciful and there are no supporting pics.

Anyhow, I have been known to be wrong before and if this is real then a drivers confidence will account for 80% of the result.

Old mate in the Evo is lacking confidence, and my prediction would be a resounding 5+ seconds win to the RX8.....

I wanna see 8 spank him.

I could have sat on the sidelines to monitor this thread, but I have joined to participate in (and be wary) of the debate.

If it is true it will be interesting to see how it pans out...I'll keep everyone informed...

I agree, it's most likely BS and it just sounds like some dumb kid making **** up for kicks. If for some reason it's real the Evo guy is in trouble because it doesn't sound like he knows what he's getting into. If gramps really does own a track then then I'm sure the RX-8 guy has a lot of experience at that track. The Evo guy doesn't even sound like he's ever been to a track, and if that's the case he's toast no matter how fast his car is.

Just an uneducated noob who knows no better. Although a turbo doesn't work as well on a 13B-MSP as it does on a 13B-REW engine you cant argue with the power gains. The mild power gain quoted in this case says the Rx-8 guy must have low boost due to stock 10.0:1 rotors still within.

If the power to weight issues are similar between the EVO + RX-8, then the RX-8 shoud kick it assuming both drivers are capable.

With respect...

1) There is little difference between the 13B MSP and the 13B-REW other than exhaust/intake ports and electronics. Turbo'ing the engine is not an issue. Tuning "was" the issue but as of recent has been resolved with new developments like upgraded ignition and ECU flash. Although many here have had a stable tune for a long time now.

2) All compression ratio on a rotory says is that we are able to get to a bigger HP number with less boost. The quoted power is about normal for a turbo'd 8...As normal as that can be...lol. So I would say around 6-8psi? The guru's will know better then I.

I agree though if the drivers are equal the Rx8 has the advantage for many reasons. I've heard of 8's pulling over 1g with light suspension mods and 275 series tires all around. I hope its not BS...I would like to see who wins.

Thats mostly true, but have you ever see a EVO corner, the computer does all the work even on asphalt. Its acutally kind of amazing what the super active yaw control feature can do for the car. The system does not just throw on the brakes and cut the throttle like the DSC in the 8, it actually transfers the power to make it corner faster and carry speed. Will it outrun a turbo rx with suspension work? I doubt it. Cars are probably close enough that its just skill.

It's going to be a drivers race.

As you guys know stock vs. stock the evo9 is alot quicker in generally everything, off the line, in corners, out of corners and etc..

The guy in the evo is already worrying, so obviously he is under experienced. And his confidence level isn't near par as well, because he wouldn't be asking who's going to win, he'd say something like "i'm going to eat a turbo rx8 next week on the track."

Really would love to see the result! Hopefully when they do race and if he does lose, he will state that on their forum, not act like it never happened.

So pretty much the cars' handling are close(with the rx8's mods), but the evo still has it on acceleration, even being turboed.

May the best driver win...

rx8 driver sounds like sort of a *****, but if he knows the limits of his car then he should easily win.

I eat noob EVO + STI drivers for breakfast at the track. No computer is going to help them if they don't have guts and a steady hand/foot.
