Does anyone know what the actual cloth interior is going to look like? I saw some pictures from the Detroit auto show and it seems that the seats will have some type of "netting" on them - like the Protege SPEED. Anyone know??

Also, does anyone know for sure whether or not the console will have the silver plastic cover?

I have ordered one with cloth interior and the touring package. I am just trying to figure out what that means for the seat coverings and the console!

 

I've been to the Detroit Autoshow twice now, mainly to see the RX-8. I can say that the cloth interior of the RX-8 looks great. One of the best I've seen. The cloth has two patterns and two shades. Where the leather is black and some other color, the cloth is black and dark gray. The two colors are different types of cloth as well. As I remember it, the gray has sort of a felt, suede like feel and the black has textured lines on it. It's very cool!

I don't know where you saw a silver plastic cover on the console but there is a black plastic cover that slides away in both the front (to expose the two cup holders) and on the back.

Also, I can say that the interior has very few "hard plastics," rather, where most cars have hard plastics the RX-8 has what feels more like some sort of hard rubber. It doesn't make the same hallow sounding noise that hard plastics do when you tap on it.

I strongly suspect that the cloth seat material will be similar to that used in my wife's '02 Miata. It's a sort of open weave, very comfortable and quite grippy.

 

One of you responded that it may be like a previous Miata - with an open weave. Is the weave material laid over top of the typical cloth kind of like a second layer?

 

The cloth seats were nice, but to me they looked like they might show signs of wear too easily.

Also, the cars had signs on them stating that they were just pre-production prototypes, and that the production models may differ...
