Intro + opinion request
First off I'm a semi new owner (had the 8 since last march or so) been reading the forums here for quite some time before I bought it though.
Absolutely love the car, I picked up an 06 SE (manual of course) in copper red!

I didn't take the pic but thats me in front with no front plate!
Anyway, now for the question portion of my post. Currently I have just over 13000KM on the car, I had the routine service done at about 10000KM and was told all was stellar (yay). But since that service I have not had to top off the oil, in fact if I am to believe what I see on the dipstick I have not burned any oil in 3000KM.
Before the service I would go through about half a bottle in a couple weeks depending on how hard I drove it of course (and believe me I drive it like I stole it). The picture above it actually from a Mazda sponsored training day at Mosport so obviously I was driving it really hard that day. Now you would think I would have used up some oil....
After searching through the forums here I did come across one thread which seemed relevant...
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=burning+oil
Everyone says yea your experience may vary, but I find nothing at all after 3000KM and a day at Mosport without having to at least top it off troubling.
With that in mind I went down to my dealership (this is the second time I have been down about this, the first was at about 11000KM and they told me to come back after another 1000KM). Once again I feel like I got blown off being told nothing is wrong, your past the break in period etc... I didn't realize there was a cutoff point where it just stopped but ok...
So after trying to void my warranty because I was at the Mazda sponsored training day (yea that was a pretty weak attempt to void my warranty...don't worry I won the argument though), I just left without getting a straight answer.... the closest I got was "you burn less oil driving the car hard than you do in city traffic"
So to add further insult to injury I decided to check out the recent TSBs, figuring hey if I am getting the shaft on this what else have they not done for me... well as it turns out I can't find the stickers under my hood advising completion of : 4206F, 01-020/07 and 01-016/07
In fact when 4206F first came out I explicitly asked my dealer if my car applied...they said no no your fine...well I can confirm that my VIN is within all the TSBs above...
Needless to say I am pretty pissed off here and clearly plan to go to a different dealer to get a second opinion and a record of TSBs completed just in case they didn't put the sticker on (I am mainly concerned about 4206F).
So that's my story... what do you guys think about the oil consumption? Any suggestions on how to approach the other dealer and the original dealer that appears to be screwing me?

I have 22K kms on mine and I don't fill up as often as I used to but mine still does burn the oil though. Did you check the oil levels after your service? Maybe they overfilled yours on purpose knowing you'd burn the oil...
and where are you located?

I suspect there was slight overfill, hell I have accidentally done that myself in the past. But even with the overfill I would still typically have to top it off within 2-3 weeks, which for me it probably only a few hundred KMs
But ever since that service dipstick has been at the top and hasn't moved
From what I was told all they did on the service was top off my fluids and check my breaks.
At this point I am expected to just ride it out until the check engine light comes on according the the dealership mechanic...but how safe is that really?

You might want to ask your dealer if they did anything with the oil refill, or if they checked the engine. I know the RX8 has a dial specifically for the oil, but computer systems can be wrong.
Check it up with the dealer. Apex seals on housing with no oil is a terrible thing.

Indeed, a Mazda mechanic was at mosport with disassembled rx7 and rx8 engines.... one of which the oil pump blew and the owner had left it running.... the sight of the rotor was sad
Any ideas on what could have been done during that service which would eliminate oil consumption? (I like to learn)

You'll have to forgive me for my ignorance on premix, but could you clarify slightly? I am assuming you are speaking of a fuel premix, however I like to be sure.
As a follow up, how will that benefit the car / oil consumption?
Once again my apologies for my ignorance
edit: I should clarify, adding slight premix to the fuel will obviously help lubricate the engine. However I guess the real question is, you're recommending that in addition to pursuing the dealer about this or in lieu of it?
