Introduction..

Well I've never really made an introduction before so I thought I'd say hi to the new community.

So.. where to start.. I've owned an FD for the last year or so, spent the entire year building it up: single turbo, fuel, port work, ridiculously sized intercooler, etc. after a year of down time, last month Steve Kan came to the bay for tune day, I was the last car on the first day and my motor popped due to a bad fuel pump. I made a nice 350rwhp @ 12.5psi and was approaching 400rwhp @14psi when it happened. The sad part is that it was all due to a little measly $200 fuel pump.. and because this wasn't the first time Steve attempted to tune my car (first time the clutch sliped @ 5kr rpm, 280rwhp) I just took it as a sign and started to part out the car. I had my heart set on an s2k due to it's raw feel and reliability (being a honda and all, and after my motor popped i could use the bit of reliability), but that became a non-viable option as "others" preferred I had at least a 4 seater.

My girlfriend was shopping for a new car as well, we test drove a civic, and then a mazda3, which she loved. I test drove the mazdaspeed3 and mazdaspeed6. The speed3 felt pretty nice, quick enough, a little unstable at high speeds. The speed6 was also fun, a bit slower but definitely had the kick. While the speed3 was definitely fun, I couldn't for the life of me get over it's fwd nature. I know it shouldn't matter since the car will be a street car 99% of the time, but I just couldn't do it. The speed6 was two parts, while it was awd, it was a fwd biased awd and couldn't send more than 50% of the power to the rear wheels, this, along with the 'standard sedan' look killed it for me. Guess i'm picky. In the end I left drove off with a SS 07 RX8 touring w/ appearance package (call me picky, I don't like leather, and I don't want the extra weight of the power/heated seats , I'll probably eventually toss the seats too.. [anyone have any idea if the RX7 RZ/spirit R seats would fit in the 8?]) and my girlfriend left with a peppy white 3. So far, I have yet to decide if i regret picking the car over the s2k or the speed3/6. It's definitely a fun car, but lacks the ***** of some of the other turbocharged alternatives

With less than 600 miles on the clock I bolted on my staggered set of CE28Ns in mercury silver (initially intended for the FD) and a K&N v2 typhoon intake. I'm also talking to Grant at SMB about a metallic cat/cat back exhaust combo. I had their setup on my FD it worked beautifully, so I'll be going back for more!

We did take a few pics with the car completely stock which I'm sure you guys have seen plenty of so I won't bore you with those, haven't had a chance to snap any with the wheels on yet but I love the look. After a few suspension mods I'll be looking for some sort of FI (leaning towards supercharger due to the fact that it's simply less hassle and seemingly more reliable).

Anyways, just wanted to say "hi" and thank you all for the wealthy of information I've already gained from searching/lurking, and I hope to share a bit myself as I dig deeper into the car. Sorry for the essay!

Welcome.

If I may make an early suggestion:
Mod your suspension first. It's the only mod you'll really notice. With engine mods you're just paying for sounds.

Other than that, enjoy your new addiction :D

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

t-run/8 - yep it does suck about the FD but life is full of things that suck and then you move on... so i'm moving on

½mv² - thanks for the tip, thus far I'm planning on mostly suspension parts (zeal coilovers, sway bars, underbraces possibly, etc) then after more of the supercharge options make their appearances into the market I will make my decision from there

*sniff* man after my own heart... (I feel your pain on the FD, too, bro. I wanted one for 13 years. I pinched every penny imaginable after graduating and bought a project '93 as soon as I could afford one. 36 days later I had to trade it in for a Galant because 2 limo drivers decided to sandwhich my Avalon and make it a Miata.)

May I ask why you've decided to go with a SC rather than TC?

What ever happened to the FD? I'll take it. I'm willing to pay up to twenty.... dollars.

Ouch. But look at it this way, that car was nothing but a money pit for over a year. and it wasn't even moving. I kept sinking money into it.. just little stuff at first, then the entire interior was replaced (I didn't like the peanut butter interior ), steering wheel, 99 spec parts... the list goes on and on and on. You might even consider yourself lucky That said, I'm 90% sure I'll be picking another one up down the line, now that I know more about the car I could make a more informed decision with my next FD.

Several factors went into the SC decision; When I installed the single on my FD, I had to run all sorts of coolant/oil lines and got poked and pinched by stainless lines for a god month. The running of the lines were pretty simple, but still not fun.. and this was on a stock turbo car. I used all the stock coolant/oil lines and it was still a hassle. I dont want to tap the brand new block on the 8, and run new coolant lines. I realize I could spring for a turbo without the coolant line but with that much heat produced under the hood as is, I want to get red of as much as possible.. I also tend to go all out when I do someting.. which sucks for me and my wallet. I like the idea that the supercharger is self contained. I also like the fact that centripetal superchargers do not make full boost until high into the rev range, this would make commuting less strenuous on my little 1.3 liter.

I also had a supercharger on my old 4th gen prelude and that little thing was fun, granted it was twinscrew but still.

I don't intend to turn this into a TC/SC debate so I'll leave it at that. I also realize that some of my "facts" are probably off, this is why i still have several months/year to read, digest, and compute around the forum
