bumpity bump again
car now has 84800 miles, just put on the winter tires today, should be over 100k by this time next year.
car still drives fine, and the love for the car is still there, but it is getting to that point where maintenance cost is starting to catch up with car payments
speaking of car payments, one more year and the car will be paid off!!!! can't wait!!

Stuck in a love triangle
What do you mean by maintenance costs staring to catch up with payments? What have you had to replace? Clutch and brakes?
Also have you been babying it and taking it easy now that it's starting to get closer to 100k, or have you been driving it the same/as hard as usual throughout the time?

Well I may have overstated in terms of ACTUAL money spent already on maintaining the 8, since as of today the single most expensive part I had to replace on the 8 in 4 years, is a corroded positive battery terminal. Of course I also do the standard brakes/oil changes myself, so I saved A LOT of money right there. The only maintenance job I pay someone to do is coolant flush.
What I was talking about is the upcoming maintenance/repair costs as the car approaches the magical 100,000 miles mark, mainly the accessory belts that will need to be replaced around 100k miles. I have no idea how much the labor for a belt job will cost. Most likely I will need to replace one (or more) of the TPMS sensors on my stock wheels in the near future as well, and you know those aren't cheap either. Oh and another set of tires will be needed soon as the FK452's now have less than 1/2 of its original tread, with mounting/balancing cost on top of the price of the tires, that's probably the most expensive thing I'll have to replace next year. Lastly, yesterday when I was putting on the winter tires, I noticed the rear right strut have begun leaking fluid, so that's probably on its last legs as well. I'm thinking Mazdaspeed springs/struts when the time comes to replacement. And then there's always the unknown "what's gonna break next" risk of a 4 year old, high mileage car, which applies to any car really, RX-8 or otherwise.

an early bump because, well, I no longer own the car. Just traded it in for a '10 Mustang, so the finally tally of my time with the 8:
driven: 96277 miles
track events attended: 6
engine replacement: 0
stranded on the road: 0
battery replaced: 1
fun times together: LOTS
I will miss the car, but it was time to move on. i'll probably still be around here, but now more as a lurker than anything else, so take care for now, i'll see you guys around
