Wow not really impressed

I must say the Nose of the 09 RX8 looks like it has a Fat Lip..
And yes the styling cues like the Rotor symbol, and the old fake fender vents... seem to be missing. Also the steering wheel looks like it came form a Miata..

Someone said something about the Seats is different? what is different about the seats.. So far illl keep my 04 - 8, besides still only has 11k miles on her :P

The styling cues are not missing. The side indicators that replaced the vents are roughly triangular. The hand brake is the same shape as the original, as is the shift **** and the door levers. the cutout a the bottom of the front doors is still roughly triangular. The rear fog light, too. The seats lack the rotary cut out due to them being Recaros, that's all. The wheels have triangular spokes as well if you notice.

When did the '09s go into production? Taking delivery in June '08 of an '09 model is pretty darn early for a car that is not being intro'd early as a new model/complete redesign.

I wonder if the '10 models will be available equally early next year, in which case I might wait until after winter to order...

I don't expect any changes in 2010, certainly no major ones.

I don't either, but I'm not going to buy an '09 in March if the '10s are out in June...

The R3's of course have the Recaro seats so that's different.

When comparing the GT leather of the 04-08 to the 09, the 09' leather is more textured and less slippery, has vent holes in the middle of the seat and back part, and the side bolsters no longer have grooves. Then there is a rearrangement of power buttons and addition of 3 memory settings.

I think that's the main differences between the GT seats. I haven't seen the cloth ones so I don't know if they are any different.

I would have traded my 07 GT in for an 09 GT if they would have worked with me on the price and had the color I wanted. For me it's worth it for the Auto Climate control and electronic head unit/nav alone. The auto headlights and memory seats combined with the other options really make it more of a premium sport car now on the level with something from Porsche (IMHO). If they boosted the power output a bit I would trade my 07 in without question (as much as I love it).

Although I'd REALLY miss my two tone red/black interior and the steering wheel. I despise the new one. Also don't care for the front end, but I'd get used to it.

Haven't been keeping up much- anyone know when the RX8 successor or new rotary sports car is reportedly coming out?

Anyway, BIG congrats to the OP! I'm jealous!!!

would have been better if they put some useful gauges in, like maybe a temp gauge that moves and has a temp scale, a functional OP gauge is an absolute must in a rotary, and a vac gauge would be useful as well.

^Didn't they finally put a working oil pressure gauge back in the MX-5/Miata? Thought I read that somewhere. If so, why not the 8, too?

The RX-8 was designed with a 10-year life cycle in mind. So it should probably be around through the 2013 model year. The '09 was the first year of the MCE...5 years down, 5 years to go.

With the global economy in the crapper, I would not be surprised if there is no new rotary-powered car in Mazda's lineup immediately once the RX-8's run is over.

If a new RX program has received the green light internally, development is probably in the very early/conceptual stages. There has been no truly credible info or spy shots regarding a potential RX-8 replacement.

I saw a show on the discovery channel that they take the concept of sea creatures and implement them on cars because of there stream lines where there is very little drag hence cuts through wind causing less drag which in turn improves performance and mpg.

Congrats!

First: Congrats! Your car looks awesome (as do all RX8s.)

Also, some series one owners were asking about the red lights being absent from the gauges: When I bought my 09 back in September, I was disappointed to find out my gauges didn't do any of that cool color changing dimming and whatnot. This was my first RX8 and I had thought this feature was cool on my friend's series 1. What's more, the 2009 RX8 brochure specifically states that the tri-color gauge is a feature on all trim levels. I was miffed that their marketing material was inaccurate. I emailed Mazda and the lazy customer service just stated "of course it's a feature." I persisted and insisted that their brochure was inaccurate. They said they would do some research and get back to me. A week later, they confirmed their mistake, apologized for my disappointment, and sent me three $50 Mazda gift cards(!) which I can used to get some accessories.

Secondly, the front of the series II don't look all that bad from the front. I'm not going to lie: I do prefer the series 1 front, but I'll take the series II tail-lights anytime. Plus, even a tricked out civic (yep, I said it) would look cool sitting next to my wife's Prius!

Enjoy your car!

Yeah, I'm also disappointed that Mazda discontinued the red gauge lights. Red is the best color for night instrument lighting, as red light does not remain as a shadow on the eye's retina the way other colors do (this is what astronomers use). Whereas the lighting functionality is there, they have opted for all white LEDs in place of the red. I'm guessing it would be possible to retrofit red LEDs in the appropriate positions in the series II cluster, but determining exactly which ones and the soldering operations involved would be tedious and time consuming.
