Im sorry if theres another thread like this, but I dont care im creating another one!! Im getting sick of numerous people calling the RX-8 "slow". Whats pissing me off is that half the time, its RX8 owners!!!!! Guys, our cars are not SLOW!!!!! OK, were not Z06 fast, but our manual RX8s are QUICK!!!!! The "almighty" 350Z runs anywhere from 13.7 -14.4 on a 1/4 mile, the RX-8 runs a 14.49 - 15.0!!!!! Thats prettty damn impressive to me that RX-8s with a 1.3 Liter engine and 40 less horsepower is only a half second behind a 3.5L 350Z. But back to the point, RX-8s are not slow, they have a severe lack of torque, as all of you know, so the may FEEL slow. Ive been reading these threads comparing RX8's to tiburons!!! What the hell!!!! Is that what we really think of this amazing machine??? Im sorry if Im coming off strong, but I love my RX8 and I KNOW I can hit 0-60 in less than 8 SECONDS. No offense to anyone, but if your RX8 is doing 0-60 in 8 seconds, there is something severly wrong with your car!!!! Or you need to turn off your TRACTION CONTROL!!!!!! Anyway, that was my little rant, I feel better now, I've been holding that inside for a while. Feel free to agree, disagree, comment, flame, whatever. I just wanted to share my feelings with everyone

I know that its tough to run a 14.5 and yes it requires a 8K drop off the start, but the truth is its possible. I know that being gentle of the start will yeild more like a 14.8-15.0 with a good driver, but I still can appreciate KNOWING what my RX8 can run.

i agree with the op. a lot of owners say that it is "slow", which i understand, since most are coming from the FD. i just got done reading a thread called "rx8 vs rxs" i think some of you have read it already. my previous car before the 8 was an rsx type s and i drove it for 5 years. people on that thread, rx8 owners included, are conceding to the fact that an rsx type s is faster on a drag race. i couldn't believe it. having experience with both cars, i can say that stock, the rx8 is faster than a type s. this is a great example of what the op is talking about.

i think the MAIN reason the rx8 gets this reputation is because of the fact that 350z, s2000, v8 mustang, and other cars in its price range all get better 1/4 mile time.

if we don't compare, i think we'd be a little more satisfied with the rx8's quickness.
(but that's a lot to ask for!)

 

Nice work! I actually sat in an 07 tiburon because my dealership is a hyundai/mazda store and just from the interior I can tell you that the quality of the car is poor, the shifter is tall enough to be in my Ford Ranger. I would never compare it to the great 8.

 

i love how people have been compairing rx8 to tiburons. i work at the hyundai delership here and drive around tiburons atleast once a day. and the other day i was messin with one of my friends in a cobalt and that car was just as quick as a tiburon. but yea i agree, the rx8 is a pretty quick car.

I picked up my 8 today and was plesantly surprised at how well it ran on the expressway. I mean before I knew it I was doing 90mph and the car was asking for more ............... it was about 2:00PM and I know the cops are out there looking for the lead-foots .......... So, I denied my urge and the cars willingness to go for more and just eased up on the pedal.

But for what reason people are saying that the 8 isn't fast, is totally beyond me. Anymore speed and or ability and I shouldn't be on the city streets or expressway. I should be on the indianapolis speedway doing laps.

Here's a thought, if the negative comments had any merit, then why are people always comparing the 8 to the so-called best on the road. Hey, if it was so true, then the argument would have ended in 2004 ......... but here we are in 2007 and people are still spewing crap ................ For what reason, is totally beyond me.

The 8 is a great car, and I for one can easily afford any car I want, but I chose an 8 ................. go figure.

The car is slow. But instead of venting out of denial, why dont you take it to drag strip (so you dont plow over any innocent bystanders) and pull off a sub 15-second run. If you can do that, scan it, post it, and then I'll believe you can pull off a sub 8-second 0-60. Until then, your car is slow.

Who cares how fast the 8 is? It is one damn nice looking car. And has rear seats,,,,,,,,,

 

you also fail to realize that usually when a car goes to a newer model its also 99% of the time faster (that 1% being the rx8) so going from those standards and the "upgrade" from an rx7 the rx8 is slow.

 

Before I bought my RX8, I drove quite a few cars to really get a good feel for what I wanted and what I could afford to have. The 8 was/is hands down the best [U]for me[U] . My friends let me drive their WRX and EvoVIII. I test drove an S2000 a 350Z, and of coarse the gold old American Mustang. I've already got a '69 Mustang (avitar) and I hate to break it to Ford, but the new one 38 years later just isn't much different. Nose heavy back light drift-o-rama when you mash the gas. Good for straight lines only from the factory. The WRX and EVO are more powerful to be sure, but neither are as smooth driving or as well styled. The 350Z just straight up sucks. The S2000 is quite nice and nimble... I just don't fit in the car LOL.

So to sum up. My car is fast... compared to a V6 Mustang or Tiburon. It's slow next to an EVO or WRX, but is more fun to drive and just looks dead sexy. And the 350Z? Well who cares what our beautiful, awsome handling, perfectly balanced afordable sports car is like next to an Altima in drag.

enjoy the fact that your car is faster than the RX-8, and we'll enjoy the fact that no car magazine comparison (6 and counting) has ever picked the 350Z over the RX-8. We'll also enjoy the fact that our cars are more unique and are better sports cars than your Z.

Not a good rate at flipping a coin though.

An 8 with 300 + hp = Not sure if it is Z06 fast but it is where I hope to be by the end of the year.

 

Renesis, this is my second rotary powered Mazda, So i can of agree our cars are not slow,but they aren't fast either. It handles a lot better than most cars on the road, However like Car and Driver said a few Issues back We need 100 more Hp to be perfect, I do love my car, Unique and different than anything else on the road right now.

 

yes the car is quick but it is not fast.

and it is slow if you compare it to today's sport cars.- which is what this is all about.

 

no need to go crazy. we know. nothing we can't do unless you have 10k or more laying around. no point in getting mad.
