I agree. RX-8's are quick cars. There is just no immediate torque that makes you go back in your seat for the butt dyno. But watch that speedometer.... It'll let you know.

"fast" is not what entirely makes a true sports car... There are many other factors that make the "perfect package".... and I think the Rx8 probably lacks in the torque category.... but I think it excels in everything else (with honors).
It is about how the machine connects with the driver.... and I havent eperienced that connection until I came across the Rx8..
As C&D said in their review.. (100hp from PERFECT)....

I just shat myself
My best friend wants a 350Z, and he makes a decent point as to why. He wants to add some serious engine mods to bring it up to around 400-500hp.. Though he admits he prefers the styling of the 8, the options/cost/gains from a turbo cant match it's traditional V6 counterpart..
I don't have the money to buy such equipment, so I never really considered this.. But to get the HP my second choice would've been the last-gen Z06..
However like others have said, the 8 is the most car you can get for the $..

hmm........good thread........i always get ask, how fast is it? or i bet its fast? and i'm like nah........its not that fast, its quick though, 0-60 in 7 seconds (when ur not ruining your clutch IMO)........Fast to me is like a Porsche 911 or Corvette. Something under 5 seconds or 5 seconds in 0-60 or so. 6-8 seconds 0-60 to me is quick.
Altho, i will say that the 8 is really fast when taking sweeping turns either on an onramp or offramp and judging by my passengers reactions. I think the 8 is fast in turns but if we're talkin striaght line performance, i prefer to call it quick.

hey guys, real quick, sorry about this thread turning into a 350Z vs RX8 thread, that wasnt the point of it. We all know the pros and cons owning an RX8 over a 350Z. But Im glad a bunch of people chimed in to mention that the RX8 is infact quick and is a great overall car. That was the point, I wanted everyone to stop being so down on our 0-60 and 1/4 mile times because they dont compare to other POS's in our "class". Even with a 0-60 time of 7 sec (easy on clutch), I can still get my girlfriend to scream for her life on an on-ramp + 1mile. lol. Youd be surprised how many of you friends you can scare when the sign says 25 and you take the off-ramp at 60, I love RX-8's.

you also fail to realize that the RX-8 ISN'T an RX-7 replacement! Mazda was very clear when the released the 8 to say that. It has two extra doors, back seats, weights a bunch more, and in regards to the last gen, isn't turbocharged! Two different cars.
If the 8 made the same rwhp as the 350Z, it would whoope it's *** and then some. Superior chassis, superoir suspension, better dynamics.
I also don't get why people think the 8 is slow and compare to the likes of Hyundais and minvans. God, the 8 will get you a speeding ticket faster than 95% of the cars on the road. It tops out at over 165-mph! The speed the 8 is ultimately capabile of is more than enough to get any driver in trouble and somewhat unuseable on public streets. ****, a 3rd gear redline is already speeding anywhere you are! I redline in 3rd in my girlfriends Saturn and I'm still at 35-mph!
The fact remains the RX-8 is usually far more capabile and faster than the average driver can handle.

^^^^agree. My own personal opinion is that RX8s feel alot slower than they are, heres something cool for EVERYONE to try. Next time you got a buddy riding with you, floor it on an on-ramp up to about 100-110 (dont get pulled over...lol) and ask you buddy how fast they THINK youre going. I guarantee they'll say "I dont know, 70". Ive done that to 3 friends already who call my car slow. THen they respond by "no way" as they lean over to see the spedo and say "damn this thing is fast". The lack of torque and digital spedo make it seem slow. I just noticed that analog spedos seem to go up quicker.

The crossfire is more expensive than the 8 and isnt as quick or better looking ( in my opinion). I cant get used to driving a car with a hatch like that!!!!!

Im sorry if theres another thread like this, but I dont care im creating another one!! Im getting sick of numerous people calling the RX-8 "slow". Whats pissing me off is that half the time, its RX8 owners!!!!! Guys, our cars are not SLOW!!!!! OK, were not Z06 fast, but our manual RX8s are QUICK!!!!! The "almighty" 350Z runs anywhere from 13.7 -14.4 on a 1/4 mile, the RX-8 runs a 14.49 - 15.0!!!!! Thats prettty damn impressive to me that RX-8s with a 1.3 Liter engine and 40 less horsepower is only a half second behind a 3.5L 350Z. But back to the point, RX-8s are not slow, they have a severe lack of torque, as all of you know, so the may FEEL slow. Ive been reading these threads comparing RX8's to tiburons!!! What the hell!!!! Is that what we really think of this amazing machine??? Im sorry if Im coming off strong, but I love my RX8 and I KNOW I can hit 0-60 in less than 8 SECONDS. No offense to anyone, but if your RX8 is doing 0-60 in 8 seconds, there is something severly wrong with your car!!!! Or you need to turn off your TRACTION CONTROL!!!!!! Anyway, that was my little rant, I feel better now, I've been holding that inside for a while. Feel free to agree, disagree, comment, flame, whatever. I just wanted to share my feelings with everyone

ps why the hell are there Z/crossfire...etc fanatics on a rx8 site, dun u have ur own forums, or do u secretly admire our astonishing bitch magnet??? i appreciate all cars, but my baby is my baby nahhhmean? if i had to get another car and keep my eight, i'd buy back my first car over the Z, crossfire, evo, wrx even though it was a accord coupe; jus cuz i put my heart into her.... now she lays w/ my sister in seatle where its been in 3-4 accidents, got its window broken to steal the pioneer deck that i installed myself....

I've never driven a 350Z, but I've driven a G35 several times. I know its a little bit quicker in a straight line, but I sure couldn't feel it. I mean, you can't feel anything when your driving that car, its a totally numb driving experience. The engine, tranny, etc. all feel very disconnected from the driver, I hated that and prefer the fell of the 8 over the G35 by leaps and bounds.
