I've got something to admit...
Hey guys,
This is quite embarrassing. I've had my 8 now for about 6-8 months, and just today l realized that the center console folds up.
Am l the only one that notices little things about the car as time goes on???

We had somebody who never knew there was a tire repair kit in the trunk. So no big deal. It's easy to get caught up in just driving and not notice certain features.

Had the car for like 2yrs before becoming aware of the little trunk handle used to pull down the trunk from the inside. Guy from a local meet used it once and i saw him and was like, WTF is that? LOL...dipshit. Just gotta laugh off lil stuff like that

don't feel bad I just discovered it a few months ago myself. I felt so retarded. But then again I don't really put anything in my center console anyway.

There have been posts from people who didn't realize there was a jack.
I knew the console opened because I read the owner's manual when I got the car. I stashed some stuff back there. Couple of years later I was wondering where the stuff had gone to...and randomly found it under the lift-up, which I had completely forgotten about.

I didn't know that either!!!
what?!
Glad l'm not the only one. The worst part however, is that is where the previous owner had stored the locknut key for the stock rims... The nuts were a b!tch to get off without it..

WOW. I just went outside in the rain to check this stuff out. Had no idea about the credit card holder or the trunk handle. Not too long ago I noticed the sunglass holder by the sunroof controls.

Just to make it unequivocally clear, that handle is a mandate safety feature in the event someone gets locked in the trunk, they have a means of getting out. It's just like refrigerators from back in the day that actually 'clicked' closed. People used to throw them out in their yards when they went bad...well they were great places to hide if you were playing hide and seek, but too many kids were locked in and died as a consequence. Same thing with these..kids play in old cars and locked themselves in..
Some of you may be too young to remember that lol, but I had a cousin that died when he accidentally locked himself into one of those old refrigerators...

My wife worries about trunk releases because of incidents of carjackers throwing the driver in the trunk. Trunk releases are always on her list of questions. When we were looking at the RX-8, the salesman asked if she thought any one of us could actually fit in the trunk.
I think the handle everyone is talking about, though, is the recessed finger grip, not the release.

Ken, I agree. The trunk release thing is a very good question.... And now I'm going to ask it... Is there one on the 8? Because I am tiny enough to get tossed into my trunk.
On a side note, I never hid in an old refridgerator. I always ended up hiding in washer and dryers.
