Dude do not be an idiot. You seriously want to risk your life or a serious injury for $25? Next thing you are going to tell us you want to do this on a sloped gravel driveway.

If money is an issue.. you can catch Sears other package sometime too.. THey have the Jack + Stands for normally 80$ but on sale for $39. I've seen it on sale a few times so far at that price (Just keep checking the internet each week). That's where I got mine.
The cheapest I've seen stands have been also at sears, last week they had the standard 2 set for $19.99.
If you need a jack however.. I was tempted to buy a 2nd based on PepBoys this week. They have a 2ton on sale for $24.99.. PLUS a $10.00 mail-in-rebate, making it only $14 bucks or so. No clue on the quality but I'm sure it'll get the job done for light duty (I'd not let it sit on the jack ever for any length of time!)
Good luck.. and I know how you feel about wanting to get it done.. the only reason I'm even doing mine is the fact I'm out of work at the moment and have plenty of time on my hands as well.

I have a Sears creeper but the last time I did the tranny fluid I just slid under on the drip cardboard as the clearance is still pretty tight at "stock" stand height.
Even if only doing one wheel at a time still use a stand. Never trust just the jack!
